Default PDK - No 6th or 7th Gear

Hi All - I just had a concerning experience in my .2 GTS PDK (2k kms). After stopping for gas and getting back up to highway speed, I could not shift up into 6th gear. I was running in Sport & Manual mode and tried both the paddles and the gear selector - nada, stuck in 5th. I moved it into Normal & Auto and still no change. I could go down and then back up to 5th, but that was it. There were no dash lights / warnings and everything else was operating smoothly. Once I stopped, shut down and restarted, everything was working fine again. Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

It happened to me once when I first got my GTS in late January after it only had a couple hundred miles on it.. I had been on the road for about 50 miles, and started playing with the S - S+ dial a little bit. After changing modes a few times I just went back to normal auto. A short time later the car sounded funny, and I noticed I was traveling about 65mph, and the car was in 5th gear. I slowed down and ran back up through the gears, but it stopped in 5th. The paddles wouldn't make it shift beyond 5th either. I stopped the car to let the computers reset, and when I started up again it ran up through the gears, but stopped in 6th gear this time, and wouldn't go any higher including using the paddles. I was going to stop and reset again, but then the problem just went away on its own, and hasn't happened again.

I did mention it to my service guy, who said that was a new one for him. It was a waste of time leaving the car if it wouldn't repeat, so I just wanted to be on record as mentioning it in case it became a problem later. It hasn't happened again since that one time. Let us know if it happens again, and I'll do the same.

I know that sport/sport+ mode will lock out 7th gear but not any of the other gears. Have it checked out imo.

Thanks for the reply Gordon, that is exactly how it happened to me too. Hate to say it, but happy that someone else experienced the same issue. Seems like it may be a software glitch. I too will mention it to my dealer and will let you know what they say and if it happens again as well.

Sport will not lock out 7th - Sport+ does.

And one more clarification: The PDK on a 991.2 allows 7th in all gears regardless of mode, including Sport Plus... although you have to be in manual mode to ever see it in Sport Plus mode.

This is good to know for those that use Sport Plus in manual mode out on the highway to avoid off-throttle popping or just to enjoy the firmer shifts and sharper response. It has to worth one more MPG or so when just cruising

This just happened to me the other day. Lost 6th and 7th gear on pdk, on all modes.

I left the car off for 30 minutes and everything reset. Still a bit of a scare.

Based on the posts these seem like isolated 1 time events. Car should have a stored code for av transmission shift issue, no?

It was only the one time for me, problem free since.

Thanks! It’s a completely different experience, definitely more raw. The rev to 9k is pure aural bliss. I will probably keep it and my 993 a long time - probably for as long as I can drive. The GTS is fantastic, but will get replaced at some point.

Nice GT3! That blue looks perfect on the GT3. Hearing the 4.0 revving to 9k RPM is definitely addicting. I love my .2 GTS but the rawness of the GT3/GT3 RS got me 🤔. I’m afraid to test drive one. There were two very lightly used 991.2 GT3s in the show room a few months ago. It’s probably a good thing that I don’t have space for another car.
