V1 Upgrade: Worth It?
My Valentine V1 is around 14 years old. Checked the Valentine site and I'm eligible for an upgrade to a brand new unit for $289. Worth it?

Also just upgraded mine after 12 years.
to fully take advantage of the new features, you'll need the OBD + bluetooth setup but in still running stand alone.
My unit was starting to act weird so the upgrade was a no brainier for me.

If you enjoy your V1 currently and want a few less K Band falses and better range, then go for it. If you want something with auto lock out go for a Max 360. If you want really the best detector out, go for the Uniden R3.

Sent mine in a year ago and also bought the Savvy and bluetooth dongles. When it came back I downloaded the V1 Driver and V1 Connection apps for my Iphone. While I haven't found the V1 Connection app too useful, the V1 Driver opens up a whole new world of capability. The GPS lockout, ability to mute everything below a set speed, and being able to set the specific detector frequencies down to a fraction of a Ghz without decreasing sensitivity is pretty cool. All controlled by your phone. Very happy with it now.

Valvefloat - the OBD connection randomly set off the alarm on my .2 when the car was locked, so I hardwired to the fuse panel for power. Took me a while to figure that out!
In other words, I wouldn't recommend Savvy (OBD connection), hardwire and use app instead.

I love my V1s. Saavy works great in cars that are not "too smart". Works great in my Subaru Outback and also in our Honda Odyssey. It caused the battery to go flat in my 2008 E-Class (took me a while to figure that out!). I'm afraid of what it may do in the 911 so I didn't even try it. Besides, with the BT dongle and the apps available for the V1, the Saavy is obsolete. It does provide a very convenient way to "hard wire" the V1 but in some cases, the position of the OBD II port makes it uncomfortable or downright unworkable. I hard wired my V1 to the passenger side fuse box and am very happy with this solution. I can reprogram it using the V1 app and also use the customizability afforded by the V1 driver app as well. Since I learned from the Vortex Radar guy that I can turn K-band off in NorCal I am one happy camper. I don't have to listen to any of the noise on K in my home area. Now if only I could find a way to get V1 to ignore Mazda and Volvo vehicles and their laser based cruise control systems!
