Default Why is there so little love for the 991.1?

Why do owners of all previous generations of 911's have so little love of the 991? This is evident by the strong values for all previous 911's (even 996's which are coming up again). I've been shopping for a 997 for a while now and I'm getting quite dismayed at the frankly stupid prices I'm seeing for some cars, especially 997.2's. I've seen several 991.1 that are cheaper than 997's (most things being equal)??
I spent countless hours on the 997 forum and convinced myself that the 997 is now the 'sweet-spot' of 911 ownership given air cooled cars are out of reach. I drank the kool-aid about the 997 being the 'last true 911'. Is it really any truth that the 991 has become a bloated, numb, GT car? Sure, the 991 drives different to a 997 but I can't honestly say it's worse? I find it interesting that no-one says the 997 GT3 is the last 'true' GT3!
Admittedly, I've got very little seat time in a 991.1 but when I did drive it I did not think it was anything less than a great 911. Thoughts? Any ex-997 owners here that think they made the right or wrong choice?

Cheers!

I think you came to the wrong forum for talking about not loving the 991.1.

Most of us would not be here unless we loved the 991.1.

I guess this thread is the cue for @R_Rated and @K-A to tell you that the 991.1 is the best thing since sliced bread... j/k

You don't see that much 997 bashing here. Is that enough to tell you who has the inferiority complex?

The 991 is more modern inside, more powerfull, and faster than the 997.
It is also somewhat bigger inside, which might be a negative if you like the smaller space and confines of the 997.

Overall, a nice improvement in my mind.

Prices here in Canada seem to indicate a massive preference for the 991 over the 997. I was looking at both and in general terms, the 991's i was interested in were typically always 30-50k more than 997.2's.

Granted, the sample size is small as there are not a lot of MT 911's for sale in Canada at any given time.

I don’t know. I test drove 2 997’s, 2 991’s, Caymans and many other cars before I made a purchase. I bought a 991.

Wouldn't mind having an air an air cooled car though.

We all know and can compare the spec's but what I want to know is how different (if at all) does a 991 feel over other 911's?
For example, I know the 991 is bigger inside but overall it's marginally (1.6inches) bigger on the outside. I know this makes the 991 drive better but the people over at the 997 forum make it sound like the 991 is HUGE and unwieldy. Another example of 997 owners being insecure?

Coming from some one who had a 997.2 C4S to a 991.1 C2S
the 911.1 rides better, turns in sharper, has a faster pdk, can brake later on a race track, has more refined interior...
AND it sounds way better than a 997.2 4S.

also it gets more curb appeal. This is fact more people comment on my 991.1 being sexy than my 997.2

on other not s
the 997.2 did not win motortrends car of the year 2 years in a row.

also they made more 991.1 Base than 997.2 base
They made less 991.1 S which are holding value better than the more produced 997.2 S

this is why I made the switch... I drove the corvette Z06 too

Because it does not have a turbo engine.
