Default Mild Scolding from a Service Advisor

I took my car in for inspection on Friday and received a mild scolding from the service advisor about the wear on my tires. He told me they were half worn in the back and that I might consider changing my driving habits. I then asked "What would be the point of having the car?"

Anyway, I was thinking about it. The tires I put on one year ago and they have about 8500 miles on these Michelin Super Sport tires. Normally, I would expect a Michelin tire to wear longer even with spirited driving, but just wanted to know your experience for wear with these tires.

I will be ecstatic to get that out of a set of tires. I went thru 3 full sets on the GTR in less than 20k miles.

My three favorite things to buy are:

Fresh oil
Fresh tires
Fresh coffee

Long tried life is overrated. You are doing just fine!

I am with you on that. I might spring for new rears in a couple of months.

Be careful. They will be hard to find in two months. Order them before you need them.

Good advice, thanks. I take a look at Tire Rack. My last experience with buying there and having Great Falls Exxon put them on was A+.

I have a full set of new Goodyears in storage, so I won't get stuck.

Got 14,000 miles out of the Pilot Sport Cup 2s on the back of my GT4, and you can be sure they were used often. Two track days, too.

I might check your alignment?

No, it's just wear, but thanks.

If they are really half (and evenly) warn at 8500 miles, don't change anything.

Hah, just checked Tire Rack. The new Sport 4S are already on backorder for the fronts. I should be able to put them on the back only, right? I have Super Sports on the front.

Me to. I also like to look at them stacked up in my garage when I pull in. It just looks cool. (and smells nice too). These tires are huuuuge.

Wear is normal. What I saw with my 981 Boxster S.
I wouldn't mix tires even though they are the same brand. Also, you should be able to order the tires a lot faster from your dealer at about the same price. Mine ordered a set of the 4s for me and it took but a few days.
