To Paxton and PDX. If you win something, your partner, the IRS, expects you to report the value of what you won. You win and $115,000 car and $25,000 in cash, you know increars your annual income by $140,000. If you have no income, then maybe the $25,000 would cover the taxes due, I actually have a job that pays pretty well, so I expect to put an additional $10,000 into estimates this year.

Ok, so lets review. I get a new car,...one I really like and one I can spec anyway I want,...for approx. $10,000. I’d say that’s a little better then a good discount.

Good thing there's no income tax in Washington state ;-)
You mentioned you were a raffle winner as well, which one did you win?

I won a T this year.

No state sales tax in Washington so you’re fortunate. Still, the Fed has a pretty significant bite.

You won also,...what did you win?

CONGRATS!! I’ve been entering the raffle every year since I was 24. EVERY year. First 20 years were the BMWCCA raffle and then the PCA raffle.
When I heard, wife said only, “its about time.”

I’ll look forward to your configuration, assuming you’ve choosen to take the car.

Congrats to you as well, first time entering for me and only bought 1 ticket!

I will be taking the car, still working out the details with my dealer.

Im a member just to play the raffle but that’s it.

The few PCA events I went to were...kinda weird. Much rather do a track day with a few rennlisters.

The tax thing is just part of the deal. It sucks, but even with heavy options and additional withholding, I’m still getting my car for ~$0.33 on the dollar. A great deal.

The allocation/order/production/delivery process.....that’s an entirely different story. The endless delays, lack of information flow from PCA & PCNA & dealer.....it’s one of the most frustrating things I’ve ever dealt with in my entire life. Spring 2017 winner, and the thing still isn’t at the port in Germany yet.

Honestly, it’s kind of sapped the joy and elation out of winning the raffle. I’m hoping when the car finally gets here, it will be worth the frustration and my attitude will recover as a result.

Speaking of which, if you don't take the car you take $80k cash, right? Is there a scenario where that makes even remotely financial sense?

I think it’s $85k.

Also taxed as regular income just like the car would be, so you pocket a lot less.

I would think taking delivery and flipping the car would net more in the end.
