After being told a new 991.2 base may take forever to get (and potentially not at all due to limited allocations), I've been looking for a pre-owned 991. My must haves are sport seats plus (18 ways would be ideal) with heating and ventilation. Although I'd prefer an MT and glass sunroof, I plan to keep my 981 B MT neither of these are must haves. My limited knowledge of the differences between the two model years and the cost of ownership/ depreciation has me looking for feedback from some of you guys who clearly can enlighten me. Here are the details:
2013 white 4S MT, 6500 kms (4000 miles), 20" sport Carerra classic wheels, 18 ways incl premium pkg plus, leather interior incl dash and seat backs, Burmester, park assist (no camera), PDCC with PASM (-20mm), sport exhaust, sport design steering wheel, steel sunroof and PDLS.
2016 Agate Grey 4S, 37000 kms (23,000 miles), 20" Carerra S wheels, 18 ways incl premium pkg plus, 2 tone leather (black garnet red), park assist incl camera, sport chrono, sport exhaust, sport design steering wheel, glass sunroof, PDLS in black, sport design mirrors, dials in black.
Both cars are CPO'd and I should add that I've seen the 2013 which not only looks new but met the previous owner who may be more **** than me about his cars (also it's never seen the track nor winter). Aside from the big differences being the tranny and PDCC which I cant compare due to winter conditions, I do wonder if its worth spending $5k more for the 2016 or will the MT and PDCC make this car more special and help the car hold its value. These cars are similarly priced to the 991.2 build I though I would proceed with. Any and all comments are welcome.
So the 2016 is still under warranty, then it has a CPO on top? That is many years of worry free motoring. If you have a low tolerance for being out of warranty and carrying that risk (although the cars are pretty bulletproof) then that is worth a lot. 23K already on the clock.....really depends what kind of miles those were (and in 911 land that's a lot in a short period of time).
I think in the end it will come down to the transmission. That really is the big kicker in this choice. Only you can make that call.
If you plan on keeping the car for a few years then selling it. My speculation is the Manual car will be easier to sell and will hold more of it's value. These cars are getting to the level of depreciation where more enthusiasts can afford them and typically enthusiasts prefer the Manual in a car like this.
Also the MT will be a hell of a lot more rare. basic economics, supply/demand supports the higher desirability of a manual car.
Thx for responding guys. I should have added that although both cars are CPO’d, the 2013 would have 2 years from a new delivery date (so spring 2020). The 2016 would have warranty until July 2021. I figure I’ll put 6,000 miles or 10,000 kms on my car annually (Audi S3 for winter and occasional time when extra space required). No question the manual is far more rare and when coupled with the sport plus seats, there appears to be very few pre owned cars available both north and south of the 49th. Also, I just confirmed that the price differential is closer to $7k difference as the 2016 price was “adjusted” upwards.
The 2013 hands down. Looks like an amazing build with no miles. It’ll hold its value well (depreciation rate will be low, relative to just about anything else in that price range), especially if you decide to keep it longer than your predicted time frame.
Just a note, you keep saying the 2013 with a manual is more "rare", but would YOU rather have the manual or not? I think that's the question that should matter the most.
For me, the 2013 with lower mileage is the better choice for the money.
Appreciate the feedback guys. After some soul searching (with respect to manual versus PDK as well as my self imposed budget), I decided I needed to do a little more research. While doing so, I came across a car that looks similar to the C2 base I would have ordered IF I knew I could get one. More importantly, it had all the options I wanted and then some. This 991 was sitting in a dealership showroom with an asking price above my search parameters so I missed it. The sales guy I spoke with suggested I consider it as they were motivated to move the car. Aside from having a full wrap (cost on this was $4k) and an added bonus of clear side markers and a frunk liner tossed in, its a nice "upgrade" to what I've been looking for and includes CPO until 2022. I put a deposit down last night and hope to pick it up next month when the weather starts to turn. Here it is:
