Yes - there is turbo spool mixed in with that flat 6 sound
The T is “louder” more volume
The GTS also sounds killer - but without all mufflers removed the 997 was quiet
Different motors, different sounds
Both sound great with exhaust mods
Both are waaaay too quiet stock IMO

We are talking 991.2's here. The 991.2 GTS with the delete pipes is loud, and the two turbo whistles are fantastic. It's even louder than a T because of the big turbos, and more fuel being burned. And they spit flames out the tailpipes when lifting at high rpm and backfiring, when in Sport mode. I know because I'm driving a 991.2 C2S with X51 PowerKit and cat delete pipes and go to a lot of Porschev eents year-round. The GTS engine is loud with cat delete pipes, even at idle.
On the topic of CELs, I do get a CEL's even tho I have the mini cat extensions for the 92 sensors. The CEL's are resettable but will come back on next time the engine is restarted. Eventually I'll install a COBB when my warranty is nearly ends, and the AccessPort will prevent these CEL's.

The point of the video is to compare the 3.0 turbo motor sound to the naturally aspirated 3.8 motor sound. Was not a T vs GTS thing.

2 different sounds - the NASP sound is probably better but the 3.0 turbo motor can sound really amazing with the right set up.

no CEL for me with Cat Delete. Will report back after I install headers

I was just about to pull the trigger on the sport cats from SPP when I decided to just check with my dealership (in Canada) about warranty.

They’re telling me that they’ll void my warranty if I remove the original cats; for sport ones or bypass. The only thing they’ll allow is a cat-back exhaust.

They have no right.. Also not to get political but as I Canadian myself living in the U.S. I was and still am sick and tired of the "no can do" attitude in Canada. Mostly everything is a big fat NO.

This is what happens when dealers have too little competition. And if he/they had any left brain lobe activity and were honest, he/they would realize that changing cats has nothing to do with warranty of anything, except perhaps emission levels.
I would recommend hanging onto the factory cat take-offs for future sale or trade of your 911.

Sounds like your dealer isn't aftermarket friendly. Warranty is a gray area, it all depends on the dealership and the relationship you have with them what they will allow. I shot you a PM with some Canadian dealerships we work with in the event that you are local to them

John Gaydos

I suspect it's more than a warranty concern. I'm pretty sure that if a dealer removes or disables any emissions control equipment, it's a violation of Federal law.

Anyone running cat deletes with a center bypass (sharkwerks or fabspeed)

wondering how the cat deletes sound with a sharkwerks bypass

some say the stock PSE center muffler is essentially a straight pipe when open

Here's the most extreme setup you could have - cat bypass pipes and a muffler bypass, basically straight pipes for reference.

Compare that to a base with Sport Catalytic Converters and rear muffler delete with anti-drone tubes

The rear muffler delete and cat delete sounds so much better. I dont know but the straight pipes seem to lose the flat six sound - Im just hearing turbo spool and no growl of the flat six.

The clip you are referring to has cats! With the straight pipes inside the car the growl of the engine is very noticeable as it's right there behind you. Outside of the car though it can get a bit drowned out and sounds a bit like "noise" compared to the tone inside the car. Very invigorating but understandably not ideal for every day use. Even with the turbos it's still "always on" and hard to drive normally without attracting attention. I'll admit - it feels incredible behind the wheel with the sensation of both the turbos and the engines at full bore.

Do keep in mind that while PSE acts like a straight pipe with valves open, it functions as a drone reducing device to mitigate undesirable qualities. It's a very well designed system from the factory. You can add more volume but you'll cut out the drone fighting provisions built in from Porsche by switching it out. Pairing an aftermarket rear with cat bypass pipes may offer too much of an in-cabin presence for most.

Cats and pse are restrictive. I guarantee it. However, after going full setup i notice throttle body opening is actually probably too slow for a straight through exhaust on shifts or if you quickly nail the gas pedal to the floor (its programmed to open slowly and not whack open).

I just spoke to Apex Autowerks and the tuner mentioned he could quicken the response. If anyone is in the NY / NJ / PA area that would be an interesting test....
