981 Boxster to 991 Cab ??
I've only test driven a Boxster, never owned one. I did own a 2013 C2S Cab for 2 years and 22k glorious miles.
It was awesome. Fun. Best top down experience of any convertible I'v ever ridden in. Only got rid of it to trade up to the TTS and I do miss having it.
To me, the 991 in any version is just so usable as a daily driver. I literally drove mine everywhere for every reason, grocery store, pick up kids, caught in Texas snow storm, etc.
They are great. Highly recommend one.
Everyone has their preferences of course but I just much preferred the larger (but still relatively small car) size and more usable space of the 991 over 981 which outweighed the more "go-cart" feel of the 981.

When I went from a 986S to the 991.1S I really lost a lot of the fun to drive factor, I'm not sure how much of that is due to going from manual to PDK though. If I were you I'd get a Boxster Spyder. If I could go back in time and order one of those new just how I wanted it instead of getting the 911 I would.

But I knew all that going in to ordering my 991GTS. I had a different mission in mind -- solid, quiet, smooth cruising car for driving Ms. Biker around, and with the push of a button rorty, harsh tarmac terror for me. But once Ms. Biker declared this one wasn't any smoother/quieter/refineder than any of the previous Carreras/Turbos, I realized, hell, just get what you want and be content driving her GLE around when you're together. And what I wanted was one that is a rorty, harsh tarmac terror without having to push a button.
You and I think alike on that. If I weren't going to the track I'd still have a GT4 instead of a Spyder because to my eye they look better (and I don't ride top down very often even in my convertibles.) But if they didn't make a GT4 I'd be all over a 981 Spyder, in retrospect.

LOL, the "rumour mill" changes weekly over on GT4 forum. Turbo 4, 4.0 detuned, no new 718 GT4, we've heard it all. Everybody knows somebody who knows somebody who says positively it's going to be whatever.
It will be what it will be, or perhaps it won't be at all. Life will go on...

I'll clarify. Porsche spent years building and perfecting rear engine 911 Turbos . From the air cooled to the water cooled they all 6 cylinders . In contrast the 4 cylinder turbo cars(like the 944) failed and none were mid engine .The 718 is the first 4 turbo mid engine production Porsche much like its front engine predecessors it has not been well received. . Going "all turbo" with a flat 6 rear engine 911 (.2 911 cars) is very different than a 4 turbo of the 718.
I've read that the new GT4 will be a 6 cyl, NA engine in several magazines. Not sure about the engine size, but my recollection is that the HP was going to be at or near 400.
One thing is clear: the better it will be, the more they will limit production. If it has a 4cyl they’ll make as many as people want to order, if it has the 4.0 it will be very very limited.
Yeah, I have been following the auto rags on this point but this was the first time that I heard someone say that the GT4 was going to remain a 3.8L and the Spyder would get the 4.0L. They will have the same engine. It doesn't make sense to have anything different. And the 4.0L is the only NA engine that Porsche is building right now.
I'm not joking - was mutitasking and some outlet apparently printed something before they were supposed to and redacted it. The article I read was referring to that. So, either way PORSCHE is not the source and the article was based on an article. Kind of like using a yahoo article as evidence in a FISA court....
