While at the dealership this morning, I saw a PTS GT3 with a color that was unfamiliar to me. It is paint code 7A1, Gray Black, which has a different tone from Slate Gray. Apparently it was originally used on the 997 GT3-RS, the one with the red-checker striping. mirrors, and wheels. I always liked the look of that a lot but never realized what the base color was.
Anyway, here is a little eye candy showing off Gray Black. The red wheel accents work nicely too.
The red wheel accent is the ONLY way to do black wheels IMO. Looks great. Helps to delineate all the black space, and give a point of reference and depth/texture. Otherwise, cars with black wheels just look like an empty void, almost wheel-less.
Gray-Black was one of the standard colors available on the 2010-2011 997.2 GT3 RS at a approx. $3k upcharge. Mine was Gray-Black with Guards Red wheels, mirrors, and wing tips.
This car is another example of how Porsche could put any color whatsoever on a car, call it PTS, and people will go ga-ga over it. I'm still waiting for a urine infused River Yellow.
I really like this color. Although I left the Porsche ownership fold for a while I have ordered a TT RS in this color and am waiting, and waiting for it to be built.
