Rich, your wear metals look great, as they should with only 3,500 miles on the oil. As noted, your viscosities are awful, for such low miles, and this is not surprising with the classic shearing of Mobil 0W40. Imagine if you went 5,000 miles or a dreaded 10,000 miles?

All these numbers will improve, if you continue to run the M1 5W50. It will improve the most in about 2 changes, because you need to flush out a higher percentage of the old M1 0W40. The real sweet spot is also about 25,000 on these motors. If properly maintained, the wear metals "freeze". Meaning, they are not going up, and not going down. This is oil nirvana. LOL! Keep running your UOAs and log your data.

I forget. Do the 2017s have the metal oil pan or the plastic honeycomb oil pan? If metal, about the only other thing you could consider is an aluminum billet magnetic drain plug from L&N Engineering (note- very low torque spec at 19 ft.lbs.). If plastic, they are not available for the drain plug, and ignore.

Which M1 5w50 are you all currently running? For Porsche A40 approval I only see FSX1 and FSX2 listed on the most recent Porsche approval list but it seems that the "advanced formula" is all that is readily available in the US.

Also, is 5w50 suitable for a northeast driven car that is put away for most of the winter but sometimes driven in close to freezing temps near the beginning and end of each driving season?

My ‘17 has the polymer oil pan Lex.

Not sure, but the service manual that came with my car lists 5W-50 as an approved oil. I checked and the bottles have A40 (Porsche) approval. I believe it’s good down to 0F; but I’m no expert for sure.

I'll have the Blackstone report for my '18T with 8600 miles (2000 miles on the oil this year - damn Covid!) in a few weeks to compare. Just sent it off today.

I'm running Motul 0w40 8100 X-Max (A40)

First time doing this, sent two samples from same oil change. Looks good. Liqui Moly 5W40

That oil is awfully thin. If it were mine I’d be shopping for a thicker 40 weight.

Very-very unimpressive. Stop using that oil, or change your driving style. Or best, change both.

Your Moly is low. Should easily be 6-7 times higher than that. Should be in the 70-80 range.

Your viscosities are awful. That oil shows major high temp shearing. If I were to wager a wild guess, you used a version of that LM 5W40 that is not Porsche A40 approved. Looks like a fabulous oil if you lived in the Arctic Circle and drove for Uber Black.

Look, I've done all the heavy lifting for you guys since 2014. Use Mobil 5W50. Buy on sale at Napa, and use the Mobil rebate (that they do 3-4 times per year) and double dip on the savings. Stock up. Buy it right, and stack it tight. Put the Mobil 5W50 in, and forgetaboutit.

No offense Norge, but....
why would you say this analysis looks good?

This is like a blood test. Out of range results are either red, bold or have an asterisk next to them. You have 2 numbers in bold. Why would that be good?

If you guys get blood work performed, please review it yourself and don’t just go by the PCP stating that it looks good. If you have numbers out fo the normal range, ask why. Inquire. It’s you body. And in this case, it’s your car.

Can you share specifically which LM 5W40?
Wolpertinger recently posted these results with Liquid Moly Leichtlauf 5W40 and viscosity was 12.46.

I order the oil change kit from FCP Euro. Oil change was at dealer with my oil so maybe they used their mobile oil and tossed my LM. But they didn’t charge for oil.
I agree viscosity was low but why I changed after 4 track days, 6 months and 4K miles. Two days were in 97F which I normally don’t do. The metals are low and why I said good.
And filled 93 octane fuel at track. Possibly where the lead came from as there is no other reason. I guess I stop filling there.

Check out the UOAs on the BITOG forum. Liqui Moly is not a bad oil by any means, but it’s also nothing special. It is very well marketed, however.

4K including 4 track days is probably too much for this oil. Wear metals didn’t suffer but likely would as the oil thinned.

I'd like to give Mobil 1 5W50 a try in my 991.1 C2S. It doesn't get too hot or too cold here. Rarely above 85F in the summer or below 30F in the winter. 50W OK with those temps?

We’re in the same neck of the woods. I just did my oil change using the same LM oil because I was able to locate, but would also try M1 5W50 if I can find easily. A year away for next oil change, but interested to know where you find them. (Don’t know why but I hate stepping into a Lordco.)

The feeling is mutual! Finding the Mobil 1 5W50 here at non-gouging prices is going to be a challenge.
