Quote: I have 21” HRE in my targa and snapped a pic of the front clearance for you. There’s gotta be 3” from the caliper to the barrel. Ride is similar to stock but I don’t daily the car and wouldn’t recommend such little rubber on a day to day basis. Car is also lowered on H&R springs. Hope this helps.
Wow, that is amazing compared to oem 20”. Which model HRE is that? Thanks!

Just noticed the date stamp and weight on the rotor shot. Your car is a .1, mine is a .2. The rotors are different, mine is 6842g min and 410mm dia, your rotor is 5718g min, but I don’t know the diameter. I tried to find the 991.1 PCCB brake specs online but came up short.

Front PCCB rotors for the 991.1 Carrera were 350mm, 10mm larger than the S rotors. (Rear PCCB rotors were also 350mm.)

good to know! So the 991.2 pccb comes with larger pccb than the ones on the 991.1...even more reason to go with 21” wheels 😜

Here are my thoughts on 20” v 21”. I’ve had both on my 991. Both ride similarly but I’d be hesitant to have 21” for daily duty given less rubber to absorb impact. Both look better with the car slightly lowered, especially 21”. If u r not going to lower, then go 20” without a doubt. 21” wheels in one piece wheels look too big imho, unless you slam the car. Only get 21” wheels in 3 piece configuration, since they look smaller visually. Here are a couple pics of the wheels I’ve had on my car. First pic, 20” HRE p106 and second, 21” HRE classic 300.

If your goal is to increase caliper clearance, 21” wheels will addresss that, i don’t think 20” will be any different from the stock wheels. U may want to reach out to one of the wheel vendors and ask, I can connect you with Tag Motorsports. They’ve always been very knowledgeable and helpful to me.

Keep us posted on what u decide. I have an’18 gts in order, will have to deal with this issue as well unfortunately.

Best,
Tom

This evening found the right front caliper slightly scratched from debris, at about the same position on the caliper as the left side gouge I experienced. The more outboard the more the clearance increases, but the impacts I have had occurred at about the same position on the caliper, at the tightest clearance to the wheel (5.5mm). The latest is not bad but it looks like this will be a continuing issue with 991.2’s with PCCB brakes. I definitely need a wheel with more clearance but can’t get my head around 21’s. Car has under 300 miles on it.

Have you called HRE or Forgeline to see if their 20" wheels have more caliper to barrel clearance than the stock 20" wheels? The clearance can be quite different from one wheel manufacturer to the next.

I’ve been talking to Wheels Boutique about HRE P101’s but frankly we have had so much back and forth I can’t remember for sure what they quoted on clearance. I believe they said 10mm and will verify tomorrow.

You should call HRE direct and talk to them. They are in San Diego so there is a time difference for you. They will know exactly what fits and how much clearance the wheels have. BTW I love the HRE P101 wheels and 7mm+ of clearance should be plenty.

P101’s are awesome. Going to check with Forgeline but if I change wheels I’d really like to get the HRE. That wheel in brushed dark clear is amazing and would look great on my Carmine GTS.

These are new and very similar. Slightly more affordable too.

Thanks! I saw those on the Forgeline website and they are really sharp too. If I change wheels it will boil down to which one gives the most clearance. Forgeline has a wide range of offsets compared to HRE, although don’t know if that is the case with their centerlocks.

A variant, the VX1R, although I like the P101 better (but not by much):
