Sound Symposer operating parameters
991.1 C2S with PSE.
Does anyone have have information on when the sound symposer is supposed to activate? I know it comes on automatically over around 3,500 RPM. But should it simply open when PSE button is pressed? Does Sport / Sport plus matter?
Just wondering about symposer, not the exhaust flaps.
Thanks.

Not sure about the 3,500 thing, but with my car I could especially hear it when Im coasting on the highway, go into manual mode, keep the RPMs around 3,500 or so, then click into Sport/Sport+ and can tell an immediate difference in induction throatines.

Sound symposer is activated in Sport and Sport Plus mode. I donāt think PSE button has any effect on it, nor RPM level. Of course as rpms rise you get more induction noise, but symposer doesnāt turn on and off based on rpms.

Various Porsche info seems to say:
On the .1:
Standard exhaust: Symposer is activated by the Sport button.
Sport exhaust: Symposer is activated by PSE button.
On the .2:
In normal mode, the first symposer activates above 1,800 rpm.
In Sport or Sport+, the second symposer is always activated.
During decel, the first symposer is always deactivated and the second is deactivated between 3,500 and 1,800 rpm.

To quote:
Electronically synthesized noise is not a Porsche solution, so the engineers developed a new Sound Symposer that is standard on both versions of the car. An acoustic channel picks up intake vibrations between the throttle valve and air filter and a membrane incorporated in the channel reinforces the vibrations and transmits them as an engine sound into the cabin. The system is driver activated or deactivated via a Sport button that controls a valve ahead of the membrane.

The reason I ask is that I just took my car in for service and this was one of the items. I know what it sounds like because I did plug it up for a day (gasp!) to see what it sounded like without the synposer. The exhaust is switching as normal. But I no longer hear the volume of induction noise in the cabin when I am expecting to in Sport / Sport plus (and to be honest Iām pretty sure I heard it when PSE was on in normal previously).
I was told it is āoperating fineā and that itās ānormal for it to open and close based on certain parameterā which is not how I recall working for 12 months prior I owned the car.

disagree. I make it a point to never run in Sport / sport plus until the oil is up to temp. Now, I do have a habit of turning on the exhaust before starting.
