718 Spyder to get GT3 engine!

“Natural aspiration is one of our main USPs,” Andreas Preuninger, head of GT car development at Porsche told Autocar earlier this year. “At Motorsport, we think we can achieve throttle response and immediacy a little bit better with an atmospheric high-revving engine than any kind of turbo.” |

Not sure why anyone thinks they would use the GT3 engine in Spyder, it ain't gonna happen. Maybe the engine out of 991.1 GTS could fit the bill
|
I'm going through my financials right now to see how bad it would be to trade in my 2018 991.2 and 2014 981S for this beast. Man do I want a NA Boxster with a GT3 engine. Wow!

And they're likely all spoken for by the 918 owners mafia. :grr:

They should have made clear that, up to now, the Boxster Spyder has NOT been a Porsche gt product developed by Andreas Preuninger's Porsche Motorsport department! And it's not expected that the 718 version of the Spyder will be the responsibility of Andreas Preuninger's Motorsports department either! So the fact that the 718's Spyder will have a naturally aspirated engine (expected to be the same as Preuninger's upcoming 718 gt4) was confirmed not by Andreas Preuninger but by Dr. Oliver Blume at the PCA Parade in Spokane this past July. Take that to the bank! https://rennlist.com/forums/987-981-...aspirated.html Saludos, Eduardo Scottsdale |

Yeah, they said that when the 981 GT4/Spyder came out..... "there is no way they would put a 911S engine in that car"....and then BOOM! Seriously, Porsche is going to make the best out of that platform. The GT3 engine in the GT4/Spyder has been rumored for over a year. I understand that they couldn't fit the turbos into the engine compartment anyway but maybe a 4.0L. I'm going to go bankrupt.

Frankly, that it's a bit of 'sloppy' reporting

Maybe. But over 10 auto magazines
are now reporting this online today. It could just be circular reporting based on a rumor. I think this rumor has legs though. Spyder will have a N/A engine. There is no question about that! Dr. Blume is on record on that score! The 'sloppy' part on Autocar's reporting is quoting Andreas Preuninger when the later is NOT responsible for the Spyder's engineering since it's not a gt project! Saludos, Eduardo Scottsdale |
Its the state of tune thats more important (also there was nothing wrong with the 3.8l NA in the 981 Spyder and GT4) - the amount of airflow in is very important to the overall long term performance and reliability (which will govern the state of tune).
I don't think they'll be any issue getting your hands on either a GT4 or Spyder. There wasn't last time (at least over here) just go and put a small deposit down and get on the list - its that easy. Personally, although I like the Spyder, I think the Boxster GTS is way more practical and if you want a GT car, well reach for the GT3 it's less compromised than the GT4. Also keep in mind AP is as much a salesman as he is an engineer e.g. read his comments in reference to the GT2 RS :) . He plays to his audience. Personally I'd like to see a GT4 offered without compromise e.g. PDK plus the performance fruit (RAS-PDCC) linked to an engine that has a lot of head room and more flexible dynamic range e.g. 3ll twin turbo. Heresy I know :) |
