Watching published 2013 991 cars for sale on e-Bay, dealer asking prices are currently discounting 38% off MRSP and private party asking prices are currently discounted 42% to 43% off MRSP

$50K seems fair to me. But considering the dealer offered him $47K.. anything better than that is certainly a consideration. Does he plan on trading it toward a new vehicle? If so he could be looking a huge tax loss by selling it privately.

I was in a similar situation with my last car. Dealer offered me 2k under private party value on the trade and I would have been crazy to not take it.
Either way, I would say the car is worth low to mid 50’s so 48k is a really good deal. I doubt it will deprecate much while you own it.

$48K is a great deal. My 2012 agate had a similar MSRP, 21K fewer miles, and 12 months of CPO and I thought I got a decent deal at about 10K more than that.
That would certainly be true here in GA. Not sure if tax laws differ in Cali.
It makes no sense for him to sell it for 48k if the dealer is offering 47k trade in. He would be far better off with the 47k due to the tax credit. He would need to sell it for 50k or more for a private sale to make sense.

I am in Los Angeles. Car is in Florida, Miami. We have offices there and I go there every month for work.
I am not aware of tax loss.
Here in Cali if dealer offers me 47k and i can get 48k in my bank account, I am better off.
thanks all for the replies.
I ll let you know what I decide.
If i don t buy it, maybe a rennlister can.
If dealer offered him 47k, knowing them....they will put it on the market for 54K-55K easy.

Assuming it is in great cosmetic condition, no accident history, clean carfax, kept current on service, etc. it is definitely a bargain at $48K.

For $48K, take it and run. You can probably resell for $6-10K higher considering market prices and location, albeit mileage is high. I’ve sold a lot of cars and general rule I’ve noticed is that on a car around $50K, you can usually sell for $10K more via private party than whatever the dealer offers you (as happened with my Macan). The key (when selling a used car) is patience.

ah lol. I would not mind to make a 5k profit but i could not list it here on rennlist and make $ off an enthusiast like me.
it would not be right!
I just bought a 997.2 4s...don t really need the 991 but i am a little bit of an addict when it comes to cars and good deals.

Not a great deal, not a bad deal if the car is truly perfect, but I'd be looking closer to $40k and I'd definitely get a good PPI done. Porsche's can look really good and then once you strat scratching the surface... Trust but verify.

There is no way he's reselling that car for mid to upper 50's, due to that last part of your comment above. 53k miles, out of warranty, soon to be 5 year old Carreras with pretty basic options don't sell for upper 50s. This is a $45k car.
