991.2 Sport Cats Experience?
#16
i recently traded my 991.1 targa 4S for a 991.2 C2S cab with PSE. i loved the aesthetics of the targa but never fell in love with the AWD or the targa mechanism. i really missed the functionality of the cab and the minimal wind buffeting, hence the trade. i absolutely love the way the 991.2 handles and drives, but it obviously doesn't sound anything like my previous targa with an AWE switchpath exhaust or my GT4.
after reading through a bunch of threads, i am thinking about putting some sport cats on the 991.2, probably from fabspeed. from my research it seems like the cats are the best place to get better sound where as an X pipe won't do much as the stock PSE muffler is already pretty free flowing.
i've found a lot of advertisements from the vendors, but not a ton of real world experience from other owners. does anyone have any experience or recommendations in regards to the different sport cats out there?
i am not really looking for HP gains, just the best bang for the buck way to make the car sound as good as it can given the limitations of the smaller turbo engine. thanks in advance!

I have the Soul Sport Cats.(www.soulpp.com). I think they sound terrific. Installed them myself.

I had kline on my turbo s and huracan, they do a great job. For the 991.2, the differences btw exhaust are the smallest I've heard yet. The inconel should have a little bit more howl so to speak at the top, but honestly I doubt you'd hear it from the cabin...granted you do have a convertible. I'd go with either their product or the speed tech. I THINK speed tech is the loudest (of those two), but mainly because they use an X pipe vs mini mufflers. FWIW, the AWE exhaust I could barely notice over stock on my friends car, though with cats it would sound good as well I'm sure.

With the Soul cats (no other exhaust mods) the sound is closer to a 991.1 with added "crackle" in sport mode and added turbo whine all without obnoxious loudness. You also loose 16lbs of rear end weight. It was the right balance for me and they are very well made.

Ive had this work done and watched my shop install them, which is why I'm offering insight, from experience.
Its 4 bolts, 2 clamps, removing and transferring the heatshields and reattaching the o2 sensors.
It couldn't be more bolt on. Anyone who is having difficulties just wasn't prepared to do it. The exhaust may need to be shifted or removed, but other than that its straightforward.
Figure 3 hours of labor for the cats. The tubular headers should improve exhaust flow and spool, but the turbos spool instaneously already. I mean its a twin turbo'd 3.0L setup, theres no lag, we're not dealing with a large single unit like the high horsepower 2JZGTE's or the like.
The headers wouldn't change the exhaust note really and be about another 1.5 hours of labor. Probably not worth it if sound is your ultimate goal. Then again you could go catless if your really want to get rowdy.

Sport Catalytic Converters are a great way to add extra tone without drone, power, turbo presence - all without a CEL. The Porsche Sport Exhaust does a great job of eliciting an invigorating exhaust note with valves open without droning - replacing the catalytic converters is the best place to start.

Meaning, they certainly don't look as new as they did ^^
My 958 CTT Fabspeed cat bypass pipes 'aged' as well but they incurred winters (salt and sand)....so that was a bit expected.

DM or email me please
What the tag on those cats?
We offer the larger 130mm HJS Directional Catalytic Converters with two individual exit pipes per cat (same as OEM) for the 991.2 PSE system. These are a direct bolt-on and we offer a Rennlist member discount, as well. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
