+1. 981 base 2.7L is one of the most fun and best high rev sounding cars I have ever driven.

Hope your friends car serves him well though,....the performance and price are definitely a plus.
Can’t speak to reliability, but sound is amazing, lag is non-existent and responsiveness and power is amazing. That little turbo engine is a BEAST.

The AMG GTS is one of the most uncomfortable cars I’ve ever driven. Entry and exit are brutal and for tall people (I’m 6’3”), it is not an option.

Tgat is is one of the reasons I’ve always been so drawn to 911s. The car is superb for tall folks.

The C63S Coupe was beautiful, fast, sounds great, seemed to handle well for a road car.

Is it a 911? No shot. But for daily driving and looking and feeling special, it is a very viable option.

As compared a Porsche? On a dollar basis, he'll lose less on that MB in a year than he would on a $140k C2S.

OP, one of my business partners has the sedan version and I have to agree, awesome car. I'm not an MB guy at all, but I was way impressed when I rode in his car. And he got his for something like $10-12k off sticker.

The C63S was on my short list because of the charismatic engine and daily drivability but in the end, I preferred the classic looks of the 911 to the rather fussy (IMHO) ones of the C-series.

Also, you could get 4WD, RAS, etc. on the 911 and it felt much more like a sports machine than a modified normal car. The 10-15% off the AMG sticker was attractive but it made me wonder what the rest of the curve would look like.

Still, I have a lot of respect for AMG, especially the GT, which was brilliant but just the wrong side of “look at me”, personally.

To the OP- Going back to MB will feel like a real step backwards from a P-Car. MB V8s are very engaging and the AMG trim, wheels and interior bits are pretty nice. However, they leave me cold in in workmanship, feel and ambiance. They just don't feel all that special. My 2.5 years experience with a Mercedes included 2.25 years of figuring out how to get rid of it. I'd rather have a Camaro SS or a Corvette for V8 thrills.

Perhaps you should hear a GT3 at the 9000rpm redline....

Again, this wasn’t for me, but, with the exception of Porsche, between Mercedes-AMG, BMW M, and Audi S/RS I would prefer the MB/AMG Cars.

The AMG cars all have a certain amount of character that is missing from M and RS.

If if I wasn’t driving the C4S, I would most certainly be driving an AMG model.

Completely agree. The AMG cars these days are amazing. The GT series gives the 911 a run for its money. Even the AMG-lite C43 is an awesome car that sounds wonderful with the sports exhaust. It's quite quick too...and offers the bad weather benefits of AWD. Have you guys seen how quickly the E63 lapped VIR in Motortrend's latest lightning lap? I know lap times aren't everything but...wow.

Cheers,
NF

Heaviness, lack of manual transmission led me to the 911...

Beastly engine tho

I crossed shopped the C63 AMG as well. Totally different beast but that power has to be experienced. In the end I went 991 because I'd have felt weird not getting the Porsche and I was under the illusion that I'd have time for track days again (has not happened)...

Tell you what though, AMG makes some nice metal these days, the day this becomes affordable I'm trading the 991 without a second thought.

A lot of them for sale in the 100-110k range already...

Definitely nice on picture, slightly in the flesh IMHO, proportions a bit off, and still a 2 seater...

Well the base one was 110+ MSRP new (thought I'm sure with options it jumped higher)... I generally do not buy cars in that price range, makes me uncomfortable. I meant when it hits 50-60K... For 100K I'd rather have 3 cars... That's how I prefer to roll - variety...

We all know how 'dem damned "GT" cars trade on the second hand market....

I've driven one. It is a more on par with a GT3 or Turbo than a Carrera and the tech is mind blowing. The road presence is also much more supercar than a 911. The 911 has 2 subjective things going for it.... fun and pedigree. Also - the 991 looks like an SUV next to an AMG GT in terms of height but the GT is super wide and long. Very cool car.
