is it me or does the glass windshield on the 991.2 cars chip or crack really easily?

I’ve put 500 mikes on my car and already have quite a few chips or pitted glass.

I dont recall ever ever having this problem on any other 911.

I am an engineer with extensive materials engineering experience. I don't believe that nonsense. 911s are low and fast, so windshield risk is high if you drive aggressively. I don't tailgate, don't drive up north in winter with salt/sand & gravel risks, and don't follow gravel trucks. So I don't have that problem. Glass is glass, unless tempered like side windows that are designed to shatter on impact. Change your driving habits, or get the plastic windshield protective film...

Even the 991.1 windshield is the same. Easy chipping. Have heard the same comments over the years here. I’m sure exact same as the 991.2 of course.

Chipping glass has nothing to do with driving style.

I understand and the physical characteristics of the car. Yes it is low and fast.

That is no reason for glass chipping during normal street driving in good weather.

I think it may may just be VW Corp glass vendors.

MB and BMW glass has never given me problems but Audi and Porsche have.

Seriously though, I don’t recall this happening on past 911s

Materials engineer here. I saw this happen on a buddy's 911 in the early 1980s. I can assure you it was his aggressive driving style combined with the low 911 profile that increased the windshield pitting and chipping. Not happening on my Porsches... And maybe I should also mention I've owned Porsches since 1970, as well as 5 recent ones built since 2000. Stay back in traffic or switch lanes. Go fast in the left or middle lane like I can do in my geography without tailgating. I never follow at less than a truck length, and usually maintain a minimum 2 truck lengths. Or just pretend like it's Porsches fault, and go get the windshield chip protective film applied and forget about this.

Any windshield pits and chips easily. And frequently, if it is as low as the windshield on a 911 or Cayman/Boxster.

All my 911's have windshield pitting issues and I'm on # 5. Mostly I think its because of the sloped and low hood line, there's no flat-front grille to catch the bits of rock and sand. Just speculating however...no facts to support it.

With regard to paint being soft: yes there are more differences in paint than glass, from mfr to mfr. But a tradeoff is soft paints hang on with minimal chipping, and harder paints tend to chip off in big chunks. A dent removal artist told me he loves working on Porsches, because the paint adheres really well to the metal substrate, whereas some of the other brands he works on can suffer big chunks of paint pulling off during dent removal by pulling on the painted surface. Paint chipping is very much increased on sports cars with low front ends, like Porsche sports cars. If you don't like paint pitting and chipping, get the frontal parts of your Porsche covered in a protective clear bra film like Expel or 3M.

I had a defective windshield replaced under warranty. Different reason, but it is was crap and Porsche covered it.

I got a Porsche and I drive aggressively, which is fun, otherwise what is the point. I could have gotten an S class, but that's boring. I do not understand people who buy sports cars and drive them like old ladies in a Corolla, you are just a poser, and OMG what happens on the track to your precious car?
