I don't know all the details and differences between these two cars but at first glance, they seem to be the same....or very similar. Obviously the badge and stripes on the 911R are different.
If I was a 911R arbitrager, I would be pissed. I'm not - I actually like to drive Porsches and not keep them in a garage as an investment to flip.
I'm glad Porsche is making this car. Maybe we will actually see them on the road instead on auction blocks and museums.

The GT3 engine is different (fixed valve train and hollow crankshaft) borrowed from the GT3 Cup, and does not have the single mass flywheel of the R (didn't need it evidently). The 6 speed manual is the same.

I am curious to see how the release of this model, and the 991.2 GT3 manual in general will effect the car flippers, if at all. Maybe it will calm down some of the craziness that we have seen with vastly inflated prices right after launch of these desirable models. Am I the only one that thinks it would put some doubt in the buyers that would've previously bought at 2x MSRP?

The R has Magnesium Panels. Think of it as a GT3RS without the aggressive aesthetics.
My unqualified predictions are that the new GT3 will significantly hurt the value of the #1 GT3's but only slightly lower the 911R's... maybe 50% premium over MSRP instead of 100% - HA!

Also to ADD: R has a single mass flywheel and no sound deadening. Houndstooth interior and retro gauges. These four items is really what makes it $200k more.. Oh and as someone above mentioned being a numbered vehicle..

I dont think 911R prices will be affected too much as most, if not all, of those cars went into collector hands and are not really going to be drivers. They'll retain their collector status and there will always be someone willing to pay for it for their collection.
The GT3T is made to be the drivers version of the 911R in that it should be much more readily available and will depreciate like any other GT3 would. So you can drive it and enjoy it and not feel bad about it.
With those cars getting miles on them and 911Rs sitting in climate controlled storage, the 911R will retain its collectors status value.
At least that is my guess.

Three Wheelin'
All I know is that I'm glad the GT3 touring doesn't have a back seat. I'd have wanted to order one (need the back seat for my toddlers), but my wife would kill me
