Default New Rearview Mirror

Anyone change over to the new mirror? I like the frameless design and wonder how difficult it is to change.

I'm also interested in this. The 991.1 mirror is so weirdly shaped.

Also considering this swap. Would like to know if anyone has experience with the rear view mirror removal and replacement?

The 991.1 mirror is way more stylish and unique looking to me. Even though it’s just a mirror, I like seeing some design to it that signifies that the car it’s in is not from “just another brand.” The new one looks like any 80’s mirror, square. Probably better for visibility, but I haven’t had an issue with the older mirror in my Macan or 911.

If anyone does this swap and ends up with an old-style NON-auto-dimming mirror, let me know.

Has anyone done this yet? Anyone have pictures of the new mirror?

I like the old one better.

Tried the Suncoast kit.
Was about 30min+ work.
If you can reference the Workshop Manual,
WM 708319 "REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT ROOF TRIM PANEL"
WM 682719 "REMOVING AND INSTALLING INTERIOR REAR-VIEW MIRROR"
should help.
Mirror base is counter clockwise release, while the manual shows the arrow direction opposite.

Hi guys,

First post here; hopefully I can contribute to the group.

I was able to install the kit in about an hour in the parking lot of Whole Foods while my girlfriend was shopping. If you are halfway good at this stuff, you could probably do it in about 10 minutes. I didn't use a manual, just started prying things off with a trim tool. If I remember correctly, I just popped off the two cover pieces on the mirror housing and then un-clamped the mirror. There is a string that keeps it from falling. You'll have to cut that or see what the manual above says to do. I don't have the auto-dim function, so that made it easier.

I like the new mirror, but don't hate the old. If you don't absolutely hate the stock mirror, I'd advise to not waste an hour of your time on this. I also regret the chin spoiler upgrade I got from Suncoast.

Why do you regret the chin spoiler? not liking how it looks?

I think it looks nice, but not much better than before. The main issue is that is scrapes the ground too much on my daily commute. I actually ripped it off the car the other week when pulling out of a steep driveway. I put the old one back on after that.

I also think its a bit more flimsy than the one that came stock on my base Carrera.

Was it the SPASM lip? I am looking at the Techart lip now since it seems it is the only option other than stock for a 991.2 with the Sport Design bumper.

I believe it was the SPASM lip. Here is the link. https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU991SSL.html

That's it, they stick out a little further so they tend to scrape easier.
