Default CarPlay music question

Hi,

Just got my '18 TTS with Burmester. Great sound, definitely improved over my 991.2 Burm, but maybe I had an issue with that one. was ok, not great. this one much better.

question - when I am connected to CarPlay, the small PCM screen in dash does not show the list of songs behind it as it does when connected wired or bluetooth and not CarPlay. Is this normal? I also assigned the diamond steering wheel key to skip to next song, and that is non functional as well. The right/left arrows on the radio work fine though.

What am I doing wrong, if anything, or limitation of CarPlay?

I believe that's a limitation due to CarPlay. Overall I haven't been a big fan of CarPlay, mainly due to the functionality of the Messages app and not being able to read text of messages on the screen; I'm finding that only Siri will read the actual texts, and it messes up very often

agreed. Have you noticed any sound quality difference playing your songs from the iPhone between CarPlay and straight USB? I don't really need the CarPlay stuff, honestly, in it's current form.

I have not noticed any sound difference, really even Bluetooth sounds good, and since you can control even Playlists and things from the PCM, I usually listen from Bluetooth since the phone doesn't have to be plugged in
Honestly I think Apple CarPlay is overrated after having had it now for 6 months

Understood. I have it in the Raptor and it’s more of a pain in the *** than useful. I was hoping maybe there was improvements.

I find the combination of Spotify (highest of the 3 quality options), Burmester and Carplay to give excellent sound quality.

Interesting. I use an iPhone/iTunes playlist I Hard loaded on to phone in ALAC. Same as FLAC. Lossless. It really sounds great and hoping will sound even better when I install Musicar’s tweeter upgrade. Can’t wait. I may just put the music on an SD card or two and go from there.

Quick question/clarification... you have the Burmeister system and need to upgrade tweeters through Music Car?

I thought only the Bose system that needed the upgrade through MusicCar.

I did not “need” the upgrade but the same upgrade is available for the Burmester as well. While it won’t perhpas make as drastic of an improvement they are still tremendous tweeters with great reviews. A few people have done them. Only thing different is the connection clip and we save $100 because we don’t need new grills.

I am not a fan of APC at all. The PCM in my 2014 Cayenne is much better for me.. I realize the new 17/18's have more function, blah, blah, it's just annoying. When I plug in my phone, the music stops. When I open waze, the music stops. Sometimes it won't even let me play XM or FM just keeps changing back to APC screen with no sound. Do I need my texts read to me?? How about no texting PERIOD!

junk IMO. Google maps, useless. I think most people don't even use the NAV on the PCM.. not a fan.

Well said it twice and I have no problem with music and NAV at the same time in ACP.

Sorry I meant ACP. Still don't like it even with correct acronym.
