Tires: Anyone dump their new tires?
I have a new 4S coming in in about a week or so. Or so I hope. I have been thinking of dumping the new Pirellis for Michelins super sport 4. I had PZeros on my Boxster and they were not that great. I sold the car shortly after swapping over to Michelins and the car rode so much better. It seems for a 125k car (what I paid) waiting for (IMO) inferior tires to wear out before swapping them out for better ones is a year or two wasted. 1500 bucks from TR. Has anyone done that? Just hand over the Pirellis to the dealer? I don't want to deal with the hassle of storing and trying to sell them myself.

The PZeros you'll be getting on a new 2018 are not the same as the PZeros that people have been complaining about since the 2012 timeframe.
Those tires weren't really bad, for that matter, just noisy as hell and overly prone to "acorn effect" in cold weather.
The new ones are supposedly much improved. Put a few miles on them to see what you think before condemning them out of hand.

Consider keeping them. The PZero N1 tires are improved.
Auto Motor und Sport SuperTest Hockenheim-Ring Small course shows incredible times for the 991.2 C2S with PZero N1:
991.2 C2S 1.09,7 min
997 GT3 RS 3.8 1.09,6 min
991 GT3 1.09,6 min
997 GT3 RS 4.0 1.09,5 min
This is true even though the 991 GT3 carries the cup tires.

OK guys. If the new Pirellis are improved, I will try them the remainder of the season before throwing them away. 1500 bucks will get me a set of winter tires. Thank you for your feedback.

I've spent a year on the P Zero's on Road and Track. Sticky as hell, hold the road but are noisy.
I would at least give them a try.
You indicated winter tires for $1500.
If you are going to swap tires on the same set of wheels for summer and winter usage, I would rethink.
Your wheels and tires are on a very high performance vehicle and I personally have separate wheel/tire packages for summer and winter.
I do not subject either the wheels or tires to unneeded removal and installation.-Richard

I couldn't stomach wasting $1500 or whatever by swapping out decent tires for slightly better tires. I'd at least put 5-6K miles on them before doing an "upgrade" that got me excited again. My M2 came with atrocious Contis and I'm having fun sliding around on them at the track. I'll switch them out soon, but I'll have at least 4K miles and probably 75 track laps before I do.

I did the exact swap you're contemplating with my 991.2 C4S and the Michelin PSS4s are smoother and quieter. I sold the PZeros for 60% of what I paid for the Michelins to a friend with an older 911 that needed new tires and was still running the PZeros. For me, the incremental $600 made it worth the swap.
