I did the ultimate tests:
I live in an excessive environment. The temperatures are extreme. In my 1995 993 C2 Coupe I put in 15W-50 Mobil 1 for 19 years. It is still perfect though I do not own it any longer. In my 2013 991 C2 and my 2015 991 GTS, I put in 5W-50 Mobil 1. I put these in because of the environments in which I live. During a typical summer day, 100 F is not unusual. I have sent all my oil to Blackstone for evaluation. My analyses have been without argument since 1995. So, why not use the oil that is tempered for your environment and then ship a sample to Blackstone to evaluate what it is doing to the wear on your engine. It brings peace-of-mind. It is simple and inexpensive.
Stay with it on your 2015 991 GTS as I do on mine. I change it every 5000 miles. I buy 5W-50 Mobil 1 from Napa at the end of every quarter when their price goes from $9 +/- to $5 +/- per quart. I monitor each change with Blackstone.
Blackstone is useful for evaluating wear on the motor. Their tests prompted me to change oils and brands due to viscosity break down under heavy track use. New oil doesn't do that. I'm not going to name as I don't want wars :-)
