Default Any ideas what this residue is?

A friend of mine took delivery of his 991.2 Turbo S about a month ago. Mine arrived two weeks later. Both cars have less than 1,000 miles. The photo below shows dark streaks of some sort on the paint behind the front wheels. Both cars seem to have the issue to a greater effect on the driver's side. The dealer said it is a wax residue from the factory and that there is nothing to worry about. The streaks are nearly identical on both cars.

After washing his car 5 different times over the last few weeks, his streaks keep coming back.

My car just showed the issue today for the first time, after a 6 hour drive on a hot, dry day. Neither car has been on a wet road yet.

Any ideas?

Throwing an idea out... could be residue from over use of tire foam or tire dressing.

Neither of us has used any tire dressing of any kind since delivery.

No streaks near the rear tires on either car.

Open your frunk. It's spillage from over filled windshield fluid. Drain some out. Common issue on all 911's.

It looks like a picture of my car that I took last week after an autocross. Identical. I don't remember seeing this on by 2014. I will check out the theory of windshield washer fluid. I hope that's it, and not some seepage from the brake fluid bleeder valve like I feared.

Thanks for the replies. GrandLaker's comment makes sense. I drained about 16 ounces out of the reservoir. Will see if that does it.

Randy, my 2013 991 C4S has never had these streaks either, that I can recall. Maybe I just never noticed it. The washer fluid reservoir is filled to the very top maybe only a couple of times per year, right? New cars would, of course, be filled to the top.

I have exactly the same, worst when tracking.
Very annoying on a white car.

I've definitely seen it before:

It's a leak in the windshield wiper fluid reservoir. It's not normal, but it's common. Quick fix under warranty for me.

That looks exactly like my car after a track session or autocross. I'm getting annual service later this week and will check it out.

What were you doing with the car when this happened?

I don't experience this phenomenon. However, I'm not sure I leave DDG dirty long enough that I would notice.

Does this happen 'in the dry' with no use of the windshield washers?

Or is this noticed only after driving in the wet and/or with use of the washers?

I only see this in dry conditions. I'm not sure I've ever used the washers on this car. Maybe not even the wipers, to be honest. Regardless, this is a dry phenomenon, and can happen in just a few minutes of very spirited driving.
