Default Carbon Ceramic Question

Took my 991TTS to service today and the inspection showed I have 8mm rear and 5mm or greater front.

What does that translate to percentage wise?

I read some post that you have to change the pad if it reached 50% so I'm wondering where do I stand. Thank you.

I don't the specs for these particular pads, but most start at 10-12mm thickness. I don't recall seeing anything about changing the pads at 50%. I would not wait until they get down to near nothing, though. 3mm maybe.

I assume you are referring to the thickness of the brake pads?

You still have plenty of pad. Don't even give it a thought until the brake pad warning sensor comes on. Might not be too long on the front, but don't spend too much time worrying about it. They charge a fortune for the brake change, so don't let them talk you into doing it any sooner than you have to.

He's referring to the preventative concern of rotor wear. More pad dissipates more heat from the rotors. Thus resulting in probably a longer-lasting rotor over time. There are a couple threads here that talk about the theory of pad replacement at 50% on the PCCB (GT3, TTS).

The pad sensor comes on at just under 50%. Unless you are tracking regularly, heat buildup in the pad is not an issue in these cars.

With steel rotors, yes. With PCCB, no. I've changed pads on PCCB many times, but the rotors are only tested for density check and put back on the car.

Thank you all for the valuable information =), guess I won't have to worry about it for a long time.
