Turbo drone noise

I just picked up a CPO 2014 TTS and was going to post the same question. Coming from a 991 C2S, I also noticed a constant drone at speeds > 55 MPH and is quite loud between 65-80 MPH in 7th gear. Car is stock.

I guess I'm deaf. I've not noticed a drone at any speed. Or maybe the drone is one of the S-only features omitted from the non-S Turbo.

I found previously (prior to the EP) that at @ 1700 to 2200 rpms trundling around or cruising along in 7th there was certainly an annoying drone. You couldn't really get rid of it even if you were coasting. If the engine was at the rpm even off throttle its there as well. I found it much the same in the base turbo as well. With the S there is a slightly different sound characteristic which again changes slightly between modes. This is due to the varying pitch of the turbochargers as they behave differently depending upon the mode you are in.
I mainly drive mine is sports.

Turbo S Drone
i bought a new 2015 TT S cab. Found the drone noise very annoying. Kept it for two months and sold it for small loss. Very tempted to buy another one, but afraid of another one with the drone. I really like the style of the TT, but finding it hard to pull the trigger. Currently leasing Carrera S cab with PDK. Will likely replace with the same, but may go back to a stick. Any opinions would be appreciated.

I think you will find with the turbo you just need to change it up with the exhaust - makes a massive difference to the whole ownership experience. The car just doesn't sound right stock (a bit weak) and then that constant drone right in the cruising range is a bitch. You can fix both issues with the right system.

Maybe it comes down to how some are using the cars then? If the stereo is the main hero in the car then the engine note may not be so important for some. For me - and i can't answer for anyone else here - I find the engine note inside the car a key feature of it being a high powered sports car. With the stock system it just wasn't doing it. That said, an engine note should never be so (obtrusive) to where you cant switch off to it and enjoy the stereo on those occasions you may just want to fluff about in normal mode. That's the beauty of this car in having that Jekyll and Hyde personality about it....which it has with the right system. Without, I felt the car was always left wanting....which may account for why some sell out of it after a period of time looking for something that satisfies the sensations more. And in that situation I could understand that. With a turbo it comes down to how you set the car up which will ultimately dictate what you are looking for out of the car.

Sure, but it still won't bring the best out of the turbo. The turbo genuinely needs a bit of help in that area and when you get it there you''ll know exactly what I mean. You'll be wondering why on earth you waited so long.

Burning Brakes
Here are couple of remedys:
1. Your driving to slow
2. Turn your stereo up
3. Down shift to a lower gear
4. Or the best solution, a good after market catless exhaust

A good catless exhaust system transforms the car entirely from a leafblower sound to a proper sports car.
Several of the NYC area's major Porsche dealers have asked me to rev up the Tubi catless race exhaust so they could hear it. The GM of one of New Jersey's largest Porsche dealers heard it and the summoned his entire sales staff to hear it telling them that this is the way the car should have sounded from the factory. I am sure the experience is similar with Kline catless.
