Default 997,2 TTS vs 991,1 TT

Friends: I currently own a 2009 C4S, and want to move to a turbo. I am considering a 997.2 TTS (MY 2010-2013) 530 HP vs 991.1 TT (MY 2014), 520 HP. Both can be had at within a 10 k$ differential.

I would like to know what do I gain equipment or technology wise by going with the 991 TT as compared to the 991 TTS.

Many thanks in advance

RE: '14 (incl '15 & '16) Turbo v TURBO S

Excellence Magazine article - 12/13 issue (pp 62) interview w/August Achleitner, director of 911 product line - stated that the 991 thicker piston crowns compared to the 997 Turbo were changed in the 991 Turbo to withstand "greater combustion pressure" w/no change in in the 9.8:1 compression ratio.

Additionally goes on to say the '14 Turbo S motor is mechanically unchanged from the base Turbo, relying purely on an ECU software remap for its extra power & torque.

Here's another article that may help you.....

Yeah, but the car is not just the motor.

There's a world of difference between the 997 chassis and the 991.

OP, drive both.

The longer wheelbase adds stability, along with the rear wheel steering makes the 991 head and shoulders ahead of the 997.

Can't believe the difference in price is only $10k...doesn't make sense unless the 997.2 is pristine and the 991 is beat.

You are dead right in that. It's amazing what moving an engine 100 mm forward can do amongst the other tweaks. You can't compare the 997 chassis to the 991 - the 991 is by far the superior car - drives so much better everywhere. 997 owners will often say it has a more visceral feel but my interpretation on that is the car just has handling flaws. I've owned both platforms long enough to identify those flaws and I certainly am very happy to be rid of them. It's not as if they added to the driving pleasure in any way imho.

I own both - and absolutely the 997.2 has a more visceral feel. Yes the 991 chassis is much improved and the electric steering is nice for daily driving.

The 997.2 with hydraulic steering and being more tail happy from the shorter wheel base makes it preferred to me at the track. It also has a larger turbo (62mm for the stock 997.2 and 56mm for the stock 991) which makes the 997.2 more laggy but hits harder on full spool which adds to the visceral nature of it.

I much prefer the 991 at the track ANY-day over my 997 - I guess to each their own there. I spent over 8 years in 997's, did a lot of track - 991 has a much better grin factor all round.

There are exotics which I would classify as being legitimately more "visceral" than my 991 (eg 458, 488 and 650 mac) in the sense they don't rely on flawed handling (like in 997) as a means of raising the Adrenalin/excitement levels. Also find it odd how some guys with their 997's are still claiming it to be more visceral yet are throwing all sorts of things at their cars in a bid to dial out the exact same flaws which Porsche has now removed finally. I'll never get that. Yep "Visceral" is a very funny word indeed in a certain context. I guess an old crank start Ford T was even more visceral again - in that same context which 997 is now (heavily) relying upon. Funny stuff indeed.

Samuel Clemens must have known speedy, when he said;

"Never present real-world contrary factoids to ol' speedy's opinions.
You will only get dragged to his level, then brow beaten with experience.... every time. "

...or something similar.

You need to try both. Which ever gives you more joy behind the wheel.

The 997 feels like a small car. Has the little hood and nose. Super fun to beat on around town.
These cars will come into their own at some point. Values are already starting to show. But they do lack in certain departments that the 991 makes up for. Especially for a daily driver.

The new 991 feels slightly larger. It has all the improvements on the interior and exterior to make it a better car to live with. Great daily. More room, more luxury comforts etc. But it has moved further away from the smaller 911 we once knew...

I cant see myself getting out of my 997TT anytime soon, however my next 911 will be the 991TT because it is the latest greatest which makes more sense for a daily driver. Otherwise I would be looking for a 993 turbo if i wasnt so "practical".
