Default 2 Annoyances!

Anyone have any ideas on the below?

First of all the car is absolutely phenomenal in every way! Went from CS 991 to TT S 991.2, no comparison in any way. The CS is like a moped compared to a jet fighter in the TTS. I pressed the CS pretty hard for the 4 years I had it and it was a tremendous amount of fun but the TTS just obliterates everything with very little effort.

My two annoyances just in case anyone has any ideas. The keyless entry seems to have very little range; I seem to have to hold the key next to the door before it’s engages to close or open. Had the same system in my CS it worked pretty well. I’ve changed the battery on the key several times (New voltage of the battery is 3.3V after a week or so it drops down to 3.0Vs) with no real impact to performance. Anyone else seen this, could this be a faulty key?

The second annoyance has nothing to do with the car. It’s actually my Escort radar detector 360, the windshield holder rattles like crazy at various speeds and it’s extremely annoying…the system actually works really well used to have the Valentine moved to the 360, it’s big but works really well apart from this nuisance noise which I have to figure out.

Thank you in advance for any thoughts?

Cheers, H

I used an Escort 360 for about 3-4 weeks as a temporary detector until I had a proper system installed. I noticed the same thing with the windshield mount. I think if you are going this path, you could try blend mount or dash mount.

Even better just get an installed detector with jammers. You will consider it money well spent. These windshield units tend to be more popular with the Toyota crowd.

Regarding your key - I suspect you need to talk with the dealer I have plenty of range on mine. In fact if I wash the car with the key in my pocket, just spraying the hose from 4 feet will unlock the door.

Re the Radar Detector Mounting: I Visor mount all my Radar Detectors with the Visor Mounting Clips that come with most detectors. The high mounting position is optimal for increased Range and cannot be seen from the outside of the car since it is in the darker tinted Windshield area which is opaque to someone standing near it. This makes them a far less visible Target to would-be thieves. My invisible wiring runs up the A Pillar and under the Sun Visor to the radar detector.

Re the Key-less entry battery life, with the key searching for the transmitter signal
at all times, the battery life is greatly shortened which is why I hate the system. My Mercedes E-63S has keyless entry, but I get at least 4-6 months of
Battery life. My Non-Keyless entry Key batteries last several years.

I've got a blend mount on my Cayenne, and it's good. However with a 991.2TT on the way, I'd consider the installed detector with jammers: Who does this kind of work, and what are the systems of choice? I'm in Newport Beach, CA.

Thank you for the feedback guys.

I am still a little baffled with my key fob (the spare is better but only marginally), I suspect I'll need to have a chat with the dealer about it. In my CS I had no issues and used it in the same Porsche leather key ring/case which I thought may be blocking the connection or hampering it at any rate.

The Escort 360 I use across multiple cars that's why I hadn't considered hard wiring it in the car, but it may be the way to go to solving this rattle.

Cheers, happy motoring!

I am using Escort 360 temporary until the proper one is installed. The clip on 360 is much better than any other Escort model, but to prevent rattles you really have to slide the tongue in until it clicks. Mine is mounted low on the windshield touching the clock. to prevent rattles on the clock I have put a small patch of the soft part of velcro on the bottom of the detector where it rests on the clock. No rattles.

No tint on mine, given the car is brand new I prefer the least amount of people touching it,just my OCD, I Escort 360 right in the middle of the windshield (6 inches or so below the review mirror) to give the best line of sight both for front and back protection. The Valentine and the Escort 360 have saved me many times with smokey coming from behind in traffic, the ratio of save is 4-1 attacks from behind. I don't really care about aesthetics, I take the unit off when I get out of the car, it's really very convenient and use it in my other cars.

Tatanka, appreciate the tips, I think I have to do something similar, it does not rattle all the time just went the revs get in to the natural frequency between 2200-2800 rpm.

The 2 systems that are best are Stinger and Antilaser. You should talk to Nanook since he has both. Also if you put a post out there on this forum, I'm sure someone will respond with a recommended shop in Orange County for these installs.

Thanks -- I did some research yesterday, and Stinger VIP is the way to go for a radar built in solution. Laser jamming is a risky scheme, IMO, as it's illegal in many states, and in some, if you are caught can be charged with a misdemeanor rather than an infraction. In addition, the police laser vendors are constantly upgrading their products to defeat / detect the jammers, requiring firmware / hardware updates.

There are other issues, such as the competency of an installer, and how location of the display would affect the look. For now, I'll likely use my V1 with a BlendMount. I've been using the V1 for many years, found it to be very effective, and have a recently upgraded to the newest version.

For laser Jamming, I still believe AL Priority (ALP) has the best laser performance and is excellent about keeping the control unit updated to be effective against the latest equipment in use. The very recent addition of the Net Radar ALP Radar Add-On Package also makes this a great total package and now with excellent performance on both fronts. It is also a much better value than the Stinger system.

I purchased this Blendmount for my TTS and it fits perfectly with no rattle:

https://store.blendmount.com/blendmo...ies-p1785.aspx

I did try to recycle another blend mount I had used on a lamborghini and it was slipping too much. The above-linked one fit perfect with no need for tape or padding to help fill out the clamp.
