Default Tell me the downside

I am currently driving a 2014 C2S Cab, but I am seriously considering moving to a 2014 or newer Turbo. I am favoring the turbo over the Turbo S because I don't think I want the Ceramic brakes and don't need the extra 20 HP. I do go the track several times a year and don't want the expense of replacing the ceramic brakes.

I think I can appreciate the benefits of the Turbo, but would like to hear any downsides that you have discovered after ownership. Have any of you gone back to a C2S after owning a Turbo? Any regrets?

At this point I am thinking a low milage CPO due to the big depreciation hit in the first year, but am still open to new.

I know that by posting on the "Turbo forum" I may not get totally objective advise, but i do want to hear from Turbo owners rather than 991 owners.

Thanks for any comments.

Don

For me the biggest downside is sound or lack thereof on the Turbo vs NA cars as well as lack of a manual, other than those two points they are incredible.

This x100

Had a '16 TT, have a 16' Boxster Spyder while '17 TTS gets built. The difference in sound is night and day. The Spyder's sound puts a smile on my face every single time I'm on the accelerator. The TT/TTS speed and torque put a smile on my face every single time I'm on the accelerator.

The only downside I've seen thus far is to my bank account!

From my recent test drives, the turbo seems to be more compliant that the 991.1 GTS and the 991.2 4S I drove.

The only downside seems to be the cost. Exhaust can be addressed by any of the excellent aftermarket companies out there. I personally really like the Akropovic

I DD my 991TT in the non-salted-road seasons. Today I drove my wife's 981CS while DDG (my TT) was in the shop for a non-drivetrain-related warranty issue.

Yes, the NA engines sound better. I drove - in the in-town part of the commute - with the windows down and the PDK in manual mode. That was fun and better than the TT.

Once I was on the highway though, I did miss the instant overwhelming power of the TT.

Other than the engine sound there's no downside. If your TT will be a 'toy' car then the sound issue can be fixed. For me, since I use the 991 as a DD I have no interest in 'fixing' the sound. My weekend 'toy' car has all the sound I need.

If the Turbo you drove was equipped with PDCC then it will be more compliant during normal driving than a non-PDCC-equipped 991 of any variety. The hydraulic sway bars that are the physical feature of PDCC won't stiffen until they need to to control body roll.

PCCB last a long time.... even with multpile track days. Wouldnt be a deal breaker in used market.

there is no downside to a 991TT.

It is my next 911 daily driver when the time comes.

You're hilarious! 👍

I may add to the high depreciation hit, the only downside is that your car gets appreciated by every motor-head except GT3 and GT3 RS owners especially as you beat them on the track 😜

Enjoy it... there's nothing like it in the market for such price.

Thanks for all of your comments. My C2S has the sport exhaust, which I really like, but I am prepared to give up some of that great tone for the performance, rear wheel steering and styling of the turbo.

I am scheduled to demo a TTS of Friday and will keep these comments in mind as do so.

Thanks again for you comments. I appreciate the wealth of information and opinions on this forum.

If you have the Turbo bug, you should definitely get one. I still regret the money I spent on my 16' C2S. The TTS is in a league of its own, and far and away a better vehicle.

You will love it, don't look back!!

Hey Don,

I see you are in Idaho, we have a second home there, too.

Idaho is one of the greatest places in the US where you can still let a Turbo loose. You won't regret it!

I've convinced several other friends in Idaho to go with the Turbo, and they LOVE them! The all-wheel drive also comes in handy in Idaho.

I've discovered another downside: there are very, very few other 'normal' vehicles that I can stand to drive.

Porscheholic, yes there are advantages to living here in Idaho.

Last week we had the "sun valley Road Rally" where a stock TTS was clocked at 203MPH. A Bugatti was the fastest at 230MPH. There is a video of the rally at "SunvalleyRoadRally.com".

The disadvantage is where I live, at 5500 ft, I put the C2S away in mid Nov and it stays in storage until mid April. But I do get to ski every day!

Thanks for the comments.

Don
