2017 R8

2017 R8
Hey TT owners, any of you considering buying the new R8?
I've always disliked the car up until this latest version, atleast from the reviews.
Looks like the performance is on par with our TT's but with a nice V10 NA.
I put my name on our delaers list, though there is no pricing/set dates even out there. But I'm assured if I want one, I will get an allocation early/mid'ish 2016.
It would not nessesarily replace my TT but be an addition.
Any thoughts from the Turbo crowd?

I used to have a 2012. It was a solid car that grabbed quite a bit of attention. You will feel that it weights quite a bit more. Much more GT in general than the 911.
I personally do not like the new styling, looks very boxy to me and doesn't have the clear lines of the old one. Personally I would get the LP580-2.

I must admit that I'm thinking about the R8 right now to replace my 14 TTS. I'm ordering a 991.2 TTS next week (April allocation) but might pass on it after I get some more reads on this. The Audi dealer is a much nicer place to do business for me.
Also, I didn't like the huge side blade on the last R8, and think this new one looks a lot better. Another factor will be if I can add a 6pt harness to the Audi seats. It really fries me that Porsche refuses to sell the TTS with the sport bucket seats!!

I didnt like the looks that much at first, but then it occurred to me that it has a mini veyron thing going on...and then the overall design started to make more sense.

Digital Trends - the first video - is the company I work at. Love seeing that in there!
My problem with the new R8 is that it seems like an evolutionary upgrade, not revolutionary. I hate it when the German car companies make small changes to the look of their cars every year. I would personally love to see a whole new design for the R8, it just looks soooo dated to me.

Performance on par with TTS -> not so much!
Have a look at the auto express video comparison on the Rennlist home page.
The 991.1 blows the doors off a new R8+. The commentator is shocked by how fast the TTS takes off in the drag race. He also mentions that there's a new version (991.2) coming out soon which is even faster. I'd take a few moments to watch that video. The TTS is a serious super power off out of the factory, then get some tuning & it becomes a monster! It's also pure pleasure to drive on the track & around town.

The whole look is a tart up of a outdated and quite awkward design. They need to let it go and start afresh. And that rear spoiler has come off a dodge or something? No way would I consider that over a Huracan, F car or Mc. Forget it.

The 911 left the line a moment early in that video (watch closely), if you have significant drag racing experience you'll appreciate what a difference that can make.
