I have a few chips and marks on mine as well. The PPF did its job.

After listening to my Xpel installer warning me not to do the headlights on my last car...and seeing what they looked like after 2 years of track duty...I over-ruled them and made them put it on the new car. Zero regrets, and it will be cheaper to refinish them next time, rather than replace them from all of the maring and scratches and dings. I will ALWAYS do the headlights in the future.

good idea!

applying a ceramic coating first makes sense, XPEL would not adhere as well, thereby possibly allowing it to be removed down the road without damaging the headlight

I think I will go this route too

So is the consensus that if you are removing A film from the headlights that’ it’s best to recover them to prevent future issues? During removal make sure to use steam/heat to prevent removing the factory protective coating?

had my headlights covered with XPEL, told the installer not to stretch it, so the material falls a little short of the frame edge which is fine with me, did not do ceramic coating first as installer was concerned about sticking to it, no issues so far

I would rather have to wet sand the headlight due to delimitation than replace due to chips. So I would do the film and risk it when it gets removed in a couple of years.

So having my 991 TTS headlight wrap replaced and redone this week! (they have tears/chips in them). I know folks are on both sides of the fence on this subject. Any advice I should pass on to my installer?
