2015 991.1 Turbo S — PCM keeps restarting every few mins after new battery
I have a 2015 991.1 Turbo S. After a long holiday break, I didn't drive the car, and the battery got fully discharged. I got a jump start, and after that, I drove for about an hour, and the PCM worked totally fine. But once I shut the car off, it wouldn't start again, so I ended up going to the Porsche dealer to replace the battery.
Here's the weird part: right after the battery replacement, the PCM started rebooting repeatedly, both while driving and even when parked. It makes a loud "pop", shows the Porsche logo, then returns to the home screen. If I'm using Bluetooth, it disconnects when it reboots.
I brought it back to the dealer. They said they tried a PCM software update using a disc, but it failed, and on the repair notes, they wrote "internal hard drive failure" and quoted $7k+ to replace the PCM.
Has anyone seen something like this and actually fixed it? I'm hoping it's something software-related, so I don't have to replace an expensive PCM unit if it's not necessary. Any suggestions on what to check next would be really appreciated.

Yes, you may need a new PCM.
Happened to my car randomly, not because of any changes to the car, the pcm would reset at exactly 2 min 42 seconds over and over.
My local Porsche dealer had it covered for me under a known recall and replaced it with a refurbished OEM part.
That may be an option for you depending on your dealer.

The hard drive failure issue has been well documented and there is a thread over on the regular 991 forum. My understanding is that you can buy a replacement solid state hard drive and the replacement is fairly straightforward. If you're relatively handy, you can possibly fix it yourself for a small amount.
ive helped many people with this on RL. This is caused by a failed hard drive in the PCM. After you replace the hard drive in your pcm, it will all go back to normal, and it's very easy to replace this drive. i ship them out daily.
