Default Coils, to change or Not to change

So the selling dealer is going to do the plug change they omitted during CPO, while they are in there I thought I might bring in new coils to be put in before the close it up.
Is this something that needs or should be done at 2018 with 25k

I say no. Not at 25K miles, but perhaps double that or the next spark plug change after this one. It's not cheap insurance at that early age, it's just throwing money away.

I agree with Foosh. If the car is running fine and no issues/misfires no need to drop the dollars there.

I’d replace them. I did so on a 25k mile car when I replaced the spark plugs and gapped them for a Sam tune

This thread makes me chuckle. Generally speaking, springs don't wear out or break in any modern car. I've got 87K on my TTS and I'd bet you a fair amount of money that if we swapped springs you would never feel a difference. If you want to change how you suspension works and feels, buy a DSC controller and learn to custom tune. Changing springs is a waste of money.

The exception to my waste comment is if you are very track focused with your car. There spring rates can and do make a difference. Of course if you setup a car to perform best on a track, it will ride like crap on the street. Been there done that.

I just changed my coils out at 36K miles. When I did the plugs the first time around @ 25K miles I left the factory coils. This time I'm replacing them. I bought Beru coils. I bought them from FCP Euro. But you can get them at alot places.

My bad! Thought springs not Coil Packs.

Coil Pack are not super expensive so if you want to change no big issue. But be aware normal lifespan is 80,000 miles plus so you have a lot of headroom.

No need to change out the coils at that mileage and if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Now..... having said that, given you are not undertaking the work yourself and if it gives you peace of mind them have them change out the coils whilst they are in there tackling the plugs.

I'm thinking you have already decided to proceed with changing them out.

I have till October to decide so No I haven't really either way. Just wanted to hear the collected wisdom here. I am in the camp that they should last longer than I will have the car but didnt know if it was a known failure item.

Tough call. Suncoast currently shows a set of six at US$353 so I wouldn't call it "cheap" insurance. But as Porsche parts go that's actually surprisingly inexpensive...

Even though the coils live a bit of a hellish existence being exposed to a lot of heat and weather etc I like to think they're engineered to take the abuse. But getting to them is a PITA and when doing the plugs they're removed anyway so...

I'd eat that $-cost and just replace them.

Yes, do it!
Labor is free because they are already removing and replacing the plug coils to change the spark plugs.
And if you research the plug coil posts, you will see that when spark plugs are changed, a plug coil often fails in the next few weeks. Then you have an additional bill(s) to replace the plug coils.
I always replace my plug coils when I replace my spark plugs, without any regrets.
