Default Is this the damn High pressure fuel pump failure?

I have a 14 991 turbo S with 35k miles… just a month ago, I replaced all spark plugs and coils as it had a misfire on one of the cylinders. Everything was fine since then. Drove it all day yesterday and the day before.

I went for a drive tonight… about 2 miles from home, I stopped at the store to grab something. Came out, started the car… all was well… about 1/4 mile down, just bogged down… auto start stop error, and engine reduced power error, then turned off. I pulled over…

Wouldn’t start anymore. I looked at the codes on the Cobb and it showed: P1023, P1285 and p3053. Cranks and all, but nothing. Sounds like either no ignition or no fuel. Towed it home… drained the damn battery from cranking… so waited for it to charge. Plugged the piwis3 in… and got the same codes (pic attached after translating).

I thought that when this pump fails, it will still limp home… but I got nothing. I checked all the fuses in the front of the car… not sure what else I can check before actually coughing up 1500 for this damn pump and swapping it. Anyone have any ideas at all?

Thank you in advance.

Definitely sounds like it’s not getting enough fuel pressure.

Curious about the p1285 code talking about electrical signal off fuel pump. I know the low pressure pump in the fuel tank is electrically driven, but is the HPFP mechanically driven?

Yeah, that's your low pressure pump, not the high pressure pump. The high pressure pump is mechanically driven.

Where's the damn low pressure pump? In the tank? Do you have a part number, by any chance? I'm sure it's cheaper than the HPFP.

Also, is there a way to test this thing before purchasing one or the other? I'm just going off of the codes and the fact that it's obvious that it's missing something... cranks but nothing.
I also think I can smell fuel when cranking...

yep, in the tank. top-access, under the battery. P/N looks like 991-620-145-00 doing a quick search.

also just noticed you're on a 991 turbo -- I'll go ahead and move this over to the turbo forum, though I doubt the replacement procedure is much different.

Thank you... I actually created it here in panic... then created another one in 991 turbo section. You can delete one of them... probably the other one.

Thanks a lot.

People rarely give an update on these forums... But here is mine. I'm 99% certain it's the HPFP. Hooked up an inline gauge to the low-pressure pump side... all looked good there. Forced it via PIWIS3... The in-Tank one is working just fine. I was able to find a HPFP from a Porsche dealer where my friend works. He'll match the Suncoast... so I'm getting it for 3800 shipped. Still a lot of money, but better than 5500. Already took mine out... just waiting for the new one now. Hopefully should be all done by Tuesday of next week.

Thanks for the update. As you say, too many people fail to provide updates. They come here in a panic for help, but by not following up, they fail to help others. The value of these forums is dependent upon the exchange of information.

Replaced the pump... Started right up. Drove it all day yesterday... all seems well. PSI in Cobb, for High fuel pressure, showing well over 2k when under boost... so I think I'm done

Very glad that fixed it ! I am bummed that the low pressure pump is not enough to get us home with limp.

That was my thought… it should have been… but it wasn’t the case for me.

What details do you need? If you google for 991 Turbo high pressure fuel pump, the info is all over the place. It's fairly easy to replace... just make sure you follow instructions and drain the coolant.
