my buddy who always gets the latest and greatest - will get a new turbo S in November. he sold me his 997.2 convertible (2011) last time around and is now offering me his 991 (2017) convertible. he takes very good care of his cars and it has 35K miles on it. he sells the cars to me at whatever price Porsche offers him to buy it back (in this case $150K).
thoughts on buying the 991 and then selling my 997.2? biggest differences? worth buying one for $150K and selling the other for (maybe) $90K?
thanks in advance.

I have had both and both are completely different animals. Having said that, many times I miss my 997.2 TTS. It was tuned and it was fast and it was more raw. Personally I would stay with what you have and save the $60K.

I wouldnt go thru all that trouble especially now that market started to soften. However if it was a manual 997 Coupe, then sure that is a different story as their value started going up.

My 997 was a .1 turbo, but I can tell you that the 991 chassis is a HUGE upgrade over the 997 platform. I noticed it immediately the first time that I drove a 991. I loved my 997 TT and it was a great car, but I’d never go back after owning a 991.

Both cars are great cars, no doubt. As I said the 997.2 TTS seemed more raw and visceral to me. It's a little smaller, does not have RWS, has hydraulic steering that seemed more mechanical. The 991 TTS seems quieter inside with a softer ride and is more luxurious. What I like more about my 991 TTS is its faster shifting transmission and with the tune, more powerful engine. I do however miss my 997 TTS driving dynamics and sound. I installed a Europipe on both and the 997 TTS sounded so much better. So much of this is subjective and just a data point from one person though. My suggestion would be to keep what you have and invest the $60K.

Go for it. I purchased a 991.2 TT a few months ago. It is an unbelievable machine. I came from a 991.1 C2 S. The upgrade in the electronics in the feel the car are awesome. I also really like the styling. The car will hold its value. It’s a no-brainer in my opinion. Good luck. And remember we need pictures or it didn’t happen. Have a good weekend

so I had the chance to borrow my buddies 991and drive them back to back for the afternoon. Love the 991 Turbo S.....but don't love it enough to swap it for my 997.2 Turbo S. the electronics are a huge upgrade - but I kinda like the simple old fashion set up. as long as my phone works with blue tooth - that's about all I care about. the power and pick up is a little better in the 991 - but because of the more civilized driving experience it actually doesn't feel faster from a visceral perspective. the 997 is more raw and more loud and therefore feels more exciting despite being slower. I also enjoy the look over the hood more on the 997 with the rounded edge of the hood and the view in the rear mirror with the less angular spoiler and more oval turbo intakes. Also like the heavier steering on the 997 which makes it feel a little more like a (old school) traditional sports car. amazing cars - and the 991 is definitely a step forward - but less visceral in my opinion.

I feel the exact same way about my 996tt; from a digital perspective, the 991 wins hands down - blindingly quick, point and shoot, annihilates air molecules at an exponential rate.
With the 996, you actually have to drive it, analog, raw, six speed - my very happy place.
