Yes, even when loosening, the wheel should be off the ground. The reason to back off 1/6th of a turn is to evenly spread the Optimoly across the face of the center lock to help ensure the torque is focused solely in attaching the wheel and not somehow due to friction on the face. Not sure 1/6th vs 1/4th really matters that much. But according to my Porsche tech buddies having the wheel off the ground is important so as not to introduce stress to the assembly.
Good catch on the inner splines being extended so as to lock the nut. Some forget that part. Also some company has made a tool, for $50, to giggle that part to help it come out and lock. As you have found anything will work including a rachet extension.

makes sense on backing off and spreading the grease, and agree 1/6 vs. 1/4 likely not a big deal. sure, makes sense on having it elevated. It's just counter to decades of always loosening the bolts on a wheel before jacking it up so as not to knock it off the jack, but i can see that. thanks for the added input.

Welcome. I have a lift in my garage and am on my second TTS with center lock wheels. Many on the forums will bad mouth them, but I actually like them. I've had them on and off so many times it's just second nature now. The biggest threat is getting Optimoly on something and then spreading it all over the place!

agreed. after doing it once and now having my own vids to go reference, a 2nd time would be pretty easy. having greasy oily hands working on a chopper is fine, but yes, have to be SOO careful working on/in a 911 with that on the fingers!

you wanna see the forum members bad mouth something, read the thread where i stripped all the porsche crests off mine and replaced them with chrome mashined axes haha.

Chrome machined axes. Well this is your thread and that is your car so you are welcome to do what you want with both, however, just for the record, if I was to respond to your other thread it would be in a hugely negative way.

Does anyone know if this statement in regards to the center locking wheel grease "Wheel bolts must be greased and tightened to a higher tightening torque according to Porsche" (taken from suncoast website) was updated on the Porsches Good to know..
what are the correct Torque specs for a 2018 GTS 911...it says 600Nm \ 443 ftlb..but is that the higher torque they are talking about ?

600Nm/440ftlb is the correct torque. It actually was lower when they came out ,2010, but there were some issues and Porsche raised the torque to the current specs. Also, after so many track hours many of the components need to be replaced as per a maintenance schedule.

Also, Just so you know. The other end of the crest remover is used for extending the lock into the splines.

I am a NOOB to this GTS, so thanks...I didn't know about the components..Will have to search and see which components you are referring to...and how many hours..
