Default Exhaust Advise

I recently purchased the Kline 3" Exhaust with catless dp's and enjoy the sound while open throttle but cruising the drone is just too much for me. I was told the Kline 2.75" exhaust has zero drone and trying to find out if I can have my cake and eat it too. Is it possible to have a performance exhaust with little to no drone at cruising speeds?
My idea is now to sell my kline exhaust and dp's and go with the kline 2.75" or Akrapovic, thoughts?

What turbos do you have? I’m have Kline Inconel exhaust in the OEM 63mm diameter, but bigger turbos and it drones too. It didn’t drone with the stock turbos.

I’m hesitant to upgrade to 76mm because it will probably get worse and you can’t retain the OEM tips.

Stock Turbos for now but seriously considering bigger turbos soon.. In your opinion do you think the Inconel exhaust was worth the extra money over the ss?

I have no experience with SS, so can’t really tell. The weight savings on the Inconel exhaust are pretty good and people have said it sounds better due to the thinner wall. I’m pretty happy with the exhaust note, the only drawback is the drone, but that’s because of the turbos.

I’m guessing the 76/70 (2.75”) shouldn’t have drone with stock turbos and you can retain the OEM tips. If you go for bigger turbos (non VTG), expect drone. If you’re not after crazy numbers (900+ whp) I think 68mm VTGs with 76/70 should be fine. You can get 800+ whp with the stock exhaust (catless) and 68mm VTG and have absolutely no drone.

If you can, try going for a ride in a car that also has the Kline equal length headers.

Because I suspect that the "drone" that you are hearing while cruising - i.e., 7th gear, ~2000 rpm - could be the boxer rumble from the stock unequal length exhaust manifolds.

I doubt there's many cars running equal length headers and 76mm exhaust.

Yes you are correct the drone is in 7th gear cruising and in most cases I keep it in manual mode and keep it in 6th to keep the rpm’s up to avoid the drone. Sam actually suggested the Kline equal length headers too. Anyone have similar issues and go with headers?

why would running equal length headers mated with a 76mm exhaust be a bad idea??

Just another data point - Kline 76/70 stainless steel exhaust with Kline decat pipes, stock OEM exhaust manifold, stock turbos on a 991.2 TTS - No drone whatsoever. I’m looking forward to getting Kline SS manifolds next.

Interesting OP. I would say that I'm sensitive to drone and the 3" Kline Header back exhaust I have does not bug me. I do agree though, it does have that 7th gear 2000-2500rpm "drone"... However, so did the stock exhaust. I purchased my car from out of state and drove 5 hours back home. First thing I noticed on the highway was the 7th gear drone from a bone stock car. To me, the Kline is no better no worse. The drone is same as stock.

Not sure if inconel vs SS makes any difference.

Don’t know why yours would differ from mine because I have the exact setup. Now that being said I do have a bmc filter, do88 inlets/y-pipe and plenum too but I really don’t think those extra mods would make any difference on the exhaust note..

When I took it into the dealership with the exact same mods as you listed in this thread, the dealership did a master reset and deleted my tune. After I got the car back with the tune deleted the car sounded different. Noticed it immediately when I turned onto the street leaving the dealer.

OP, Should buy a Europipe and be done with it. That'd fix your sound / drone issues.

Unless you’re **** about weight saving the difference between Kline SS and inconel is 4KG.
