992 Turbo S impressions

That stuff doesnt bother me. I like everything i have seen on the 992 TT so far. I actually like the center dash - its digital - but looks retro. I am in the cloud technology business so i embrace the new - change is good. However, I am still very happy with my 991 and just ordered new wheels (HRE) etc., but I could see making the move to a 992. It will be more modern, better performer, have the PSE and SPASM as options i would tick, newer PCM and so forth. I am just undecided as to timing.

Well, then there's this to factor in: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a3...ng-zero-to-60/

I don’t care if the 992 does 0-60 in 0.01 seconds, the quarter mile in negative time and comes with a hot chick and a puppy. The UI is infuriating. I just want to smash it with a hammer every time I am forced to use it (via loaners.)
Note that I do not disparage the concept. Ferrari’s done a good job of it for some time. It is Porsche’s execution that is hammer worthy.
When Porsche re-hires their human factors engineers and actually listens to them (cough... cupholderGate) then I’ll take another look.
Until then - looks like 2028 earliest - our 991s stay.

I would guess every new generation P car gets the critique from current generation owners not impressed with the changes. I'm certainly in that boat with my touch screen objections on the 992 TTS (and what's up with those weird wedges around the license plate...yikes). However, progress and the change that comes with it is inevitable...the odds are it's a matter of time before all of us have to embrace it, even when it comes to our cars. I'm just going to have to get over it.
So i am now a proponent of onwards and upwards. Obviously there is a cost and i cant / wont just drop $220-250K every time a new one comes out. Especially in CA where tax and trade ins kill you. So I now contemplate when i move to the 992 platform. But the digital speedo's will be the last thing to stop me. I actually like the 992 dash better.
Now the good news is that there's no rush - the 991 Turbo is still fantastic. With a few tweaks (Exhaust note, more power and nicer wheels) - i am still super happy.

When you have No choice, short of winning the Lotto and buying a 992TTS, I'll argue that my 4 year old 991.2 Turbo S is better all day long!! LOL

So much good about the 992 TTS for me that some of the not so good is not a turn off. Car looks amazing and performs even more so at levels of many $’s more super cars. Price is a hefty burden so for now loving my 991 TTS but at some point I might take the leap.

I think I should do the prudent thing and set up a savings plan to buy one rather than just rush out and get one, after-all, one must appear responsible to the wife! If I set aside a measly $50,000 per year I'll be able to afford to trade my 19 TTS in for perhaps a used 992 TTS and then I can go 0.4 seconds quicker to 60 mph! Now the math doesn't work out so well as far as $$$/0.1 second improvement but I'm sure I can come up with a good story!

Yup - this is what happens all the time. When i had my 997 C2S and the 991 came out - not sure if you were around back then - but everyone went crazy. Its a Panamera, lost its way, longer wheel base, too GT like, bigger, heavier, blah blah blah etc. Or even the constant back and forth of PDK vs MT. Hey i even bought into that until I drove my 991 TT in 2016 and decided that it was a big step up vs my 997 C2S. There's almost not one thing now that I prefer in my old C2S over the 991TT. Even the exhaust note went more muted from 997.1 to 997.2 with the DFI move and extra mufflers. So i had to get a Tubi .. I also went out and got a 993 for nostalgia. That lasted a year and i was like "why did I do this". I guess i just like the newer stuff - no right vs wrong.

I did nothing more than drive a 993 Turbo onto the freeway......and immediately to the nearest off ramp! I couldn't believe anyone enjoyed driving one of those things.....it was like driving a tractor....never again.
However I still like the 996 Turbo...it hasn't quite reached the point where it is so ancient as to feel obsolete.

Yeah. I hear you. I've been around here for a while. I remember there used to be guys saying truly derisive things about the 996TT just because it was water cooled. Every time a new 911 comes out, the hand wringing commences, just as you've described it.

I've never even been in one but can you add some detail?
I'm interested in how they actually feel from behind the wheel.
I love the body style of those cars.

I had a 928 GTS when my son-in-law bought a 993TT. We used to trade off when on spirited drives. When I would first start driving the 993 I found it to be very twitchy steering. It would take me 10-20 minutes/miles to get used to it or maybe me to settle down. At the time I thought it rode hard, lots of road noise etc., compared to my 928 GTS. Time marched on; the son-in-law sold the 993TT to my son, then about ten years later he sold it back to the son-in-law. This time, I now own my 991TTS, and I volunteer to drive the 993 from Miami to New Jersey. Same thing; compared to my 991TTS there is nothing I liked about the 993TT. It wasn't as quick, or as comfortable, or handle as well as the 991TTS.
Now compared to the new 992, for me there just isn't enough improvement to justify the additional expense. My 991TTS is paid for and that's a big reason to NOT go into debt for a marginally better car.
