I had this issue for the first time yesterday. I drove to the store, and when I came back out the door wouldn't unlock with the button on the handle. I was able to open it with the remote. When I tried to start the car, I received the "no key detected" message. I tried it again, and it worked fine. On my drive home, the no key error message popped up again. I changed the battery, to no avail.

I may have to try the battery disconnection method. Did that produce any other issues or errors? Is it still working?

Thanks,

Yes try disconnecting the negative terminal on the cars battery for a few seconds and then reattach. This fixed the problem for me. I haven’t had the problem since I did that.

Before trying the battery trick, I tried using key number 2. Everything works fine with the second key.

There is quite a bit of irony in that I work in IT. I should have tried unplugging it and plugging it back in first lol.

Thanks again.
It's surprising (to me) how often the good ole fashioned reset solves problems at my office - from PC's to network issues to printers. Now I know the axiom applies to the 991 as well!

That's because the electrons get confused...

Every so often my 19 will not detect the key in my pocket. Have to turn the key switch on/off a couple of times. No biggie but odd.

My problem seems to be solved now. It bugged me that key 1 wouldn’t always work, and key 2 worked fine. I had never had a problem before. I left the house today to run some errands using key 1, and everything seemed fine until I pulled into a parking lot and I received the “Attention No key found in vehicle” warning. I parked the car, and I was unable to lock it with the button on the door handle. I was able to lock it with the fob, but it took several attempts. I noticed that the red light on the fob didn’t illuminate each time that I pushed the button.

When I returned to the car, I couldn’t unlock it by touching the door handle, and the fob didn’t work at all. The red light on the fob would not illuminate. I installed a new fob battery yesterday, so I knew that was probably good. I popped the fob open, and the battery was sitting in a awkward position. I put it into the proper position, and now everything works beautifully. I think my issue was inconsistent power to the fob because the battery wasn’t seated properly. I’ll monitor it and see how it does, but I’m convinced that was the problem.

QQ: What happens if you bring both keys with you in the car with E&D? Does one of the keys take priority over the other - i.e. is one dedicated as a factory "master" key / Key 1and if so, how would I know which one would be the main "key"?

I could be wrong but from what I have researched with these problems... both keys are paired to the car... Neither is a Master Key. So as long as one of the two keys is in the car, the car will start and perform all the usual E&D functions.

I'm just thinking what about the preset's allocated to each key, such as seat positioning, mirrors, A/C settings etc etc? One key must have priority or will it be random?

Funny, as I've been wrestling with this issue all day today. Same car, same issue, same remedy attempts you tried...except the "rebooting". All to no avail. I came in to see if the forum had a solution, and found your same problem. I'm now hopeful I can do this fix tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Car will start and drive just fine, as far as memory settings, it's pretty random. I've driven with my wife and both of us having our keys, it wanted to set the driver seat to her position. It's kinda like bluetooth, if you have 2 phones paired, it's a crap-shoot to which one the radio connects to. Best practice is, don't carry both keys I guess.

I bet pulling the neg term off the battery will fix it! Good luck.

Well, I tried disconnecting the negative terminal, but no luck. I still have the issue, so I made an appointment with the dealer. Darn.
