I would be interested too. I am an R3 user and would like to hear feedback on the R7.

Very very tempted, after my V1 didn’t give enough notice on Saturday. Got a warning but he had me cold.

I did get one on Sunday at Best Buy but have only been driving it a day. I am not thrilled with the lack of auto lockouts. ( I know they’re coming when escorts patent expires this summer.). I am also concerned about the fact that the bsm filtering is not as good as my escort, purportedly. The unit itself feels light compared to my escort max 360. The screen seems nice. Right now I have the Bel StiR installed and I really like the stealth aspect, but the upgrade to the new escort is an expensive proposition.

Why would you get a Uniden R7 if you already have an Escort Max 360? Aren't they similar but the Escort has auto lockout?

Yes, they are similar and competing units. I mainly keep the escort in my BMW. In my Porsche I have the built-in Bel stiR unit. The Bel has no filtering for bsm. I don’t like to be constantly moving my detectors around so I bought this one for the 911 and was going to turn off the Bel and see how this one does. I have heard many good things about the uniden units and their great range and how responsive they are to costumer needs. I wanted to give it a try.

Well so far not very impressed. I took it out for about an hour today on a busy route through Philadelphia. It beeped and made noises constantly. Finally After getting to my destination I switched back to my Escort. The escort was practically silent the entire time home. I realize that I have to give this to detector time but so far it is really noisy.

Mine just arrived,,,taking the time to properly configure is very critical to a proper performance level...somewhat daunting but spend some time reading through the pamphlet and with the proper settings the false alert incidents should tone down...and I also suspect we will receive an update soon after it sees some street time

Maybe you should get the 360C instead. That way you can transfer over your existing lockouts and not have to go through a learning curve. At least I assume you can - I know you could do this with the previous generation 9500 models.

R7 will be more compelling once the lockout feature is available.

This post suggests a lot of bugs to be worked out. Not ready for primetime.

The R7 looks HUGE. Is the size really as unwieldy as it appears in photographs?

All the dual antenna, GPS enabled radar detectors are big. The Escort Max 360 is also big.

If you look at this photo you can see the R7 may be the biggest. It looks wider than the Escort Max 360 (to the right of the Uniden) but maybe similar size overall. The newer Escort 360C is noticeable smaller (two spots to the right of the R7).
