I haven't really noticed much performance difference between installed radar detectors and windshield mounted detectors when comparing similar generations of detectors (ie. Bel STiR+ / V1 / Escort Max/360), in the cars I've had them on at least. Doing a custom built-in install always looks nicer and is more stealthy obviously.

Radar systems (and lazer systems) get outdated relatively quickly and the built-in systems cost significantly more. They are also often harder to update. I have a car now with Bel STiR+ built-in that I disable and use a windshield detector instead because of the lack of K band filtering.

I've stopped doing built-in detectors and just use Blendmounts or the like now for semi-permanent installs. Looks good enough for me, costs a lot less, and I can change whenever I like.

Its hard wired and you can't detect it at all, I can do 100 mph and barely notice it.
I don't want to take any chances with the cops.
thank you!

yes, that's the downside of having a built in, thanks for your comments

this is exactly the type of feedback I'm interested in, thank you!

As a previous user of over half a dozen ALP jammer systems (only 1 currently in my ZR1)..here are two systems that just arrived..

One for my new TTS coming in 4 weeks,,, control unit..front - 3 RX sensors rear and 1 RX-1TX
and a second complete system for my new '18 GLEs AMG...control with front 2 RX-1TX and rear 1RX and 1 TX
And as mentioned these two systems will be complimented with a Uniden R7 windshield mount each

I did in the ZR1 and my last ML63 AMG...I had my last TTS professionally done and will have these 2 systems as well as the systems I removed from my ML63 installed into my daughters RAV4.....my install days are over,,,

Also all vehicles are getting front and rear cameras....I have the front camera compete in the GLE and the front windshield radar unit..

so you keep the brains of the system as a windshield mount, so it's easily upgraded and less costly?

So I keep the RADAR brains of the system as a windshield mount...but the laser jammer system is much more intricate,,costly and much more important for speeding protection as nearly all departments run laser mostly ...and around here mostly photo laser rear since we do not run front plates...and the Dragon gun is a nasty device difficult to jam of which the ALP handles well

I have an R3 on a Blendmount after a plethora of Escorts. I love the R3. Im sticking with this type of mount as tech keeps changing and these detectors are getting better every time. I want the ability to update and change easily.

I am waiting for some reviews on the R7 which will be out over the next few days. I wish it had auto lockouts now but we have to wait until the utility patent is up. (which will be soon). Overall I do like the max 360.

I think the patent expires in June right? I've got an R7 on preorder. It looks like people are starting to get them now.

I'm hoping Radenso comes out with an updated Pro-M with arrows and GPS lockouts sometime soon.

bel is a legacy product designed before cars had radar based safety systems. At this point you should get rid of it or disconnect it and use something else.

The quietest detectors right now are the Escort 360 models, the Radenso RC-M and the Uniden R7.

Personally I love the Escort product. I have a Max CI 360 in my E63S and it is fantastic.

Avoid the older Bel/Escort detectors and anything from NetRadar. Those are useless.
