Plasti Dip Smoke

Plasti Dip Smoke
Plasti dipped my stock wheels this past week and wanted to try out the plasti dip smoke on my rear reflectors. I’m really happy with the way it turned out. Looks great and blends well with the car when the light is not hitting them. Reflectors light up as they should when light is directed towards them.

For the wheels…
Step 1 - Wash the wheels with soap and water and then let dry overnight. (The wheels must be bone dry for the plasti dip to stick)
Step 2 - Apply tire shine to the tires so the plasti dip can be sprayed onto wheel and any excess will not stick to the tire due to tire shine.
Step 3 - Clean the wheels with water / rubbing alcohol solution to remove anything missed in the wash. (spray the cloth not the wheels). Pay close attention to clean the edge of rim to remove any tire shine from the lip of the wheels so the plasti dip will stick properly to the wheel.
Step 4 - Mask off the surrounding area of car to avoid overspray. I also left the wheels on the car when I sprayed them. I then took plastic and covered the rotors and calipers so I could spray with the wheel directly on the car.
Step 5 – Warm up the can of plasti dip in hot tap water before spraying….not boiling, just from the sink…haha. The warm plasti dip will lay smooth without texture sprayed.
Step 6 – Spray a light first coat on all four wheels….wait 20 minutes. Repeat the process with 5 additional medium coats and allow 30 min drying between coats. ( I put 6 coats black on each wheel…4 cans total….1 can per wheel.)
Step 7 – Add 3 coats of plasti dip glossifier to create a gloss finish. ( wait 20-30 mins between coats )
Step 8 - Enjoy your work and if you don't like it...simply peel it off.

I have also used plasti dip on the rear wing, headlight surrounds, front blades, and side mirrors. All turned out really well.

For the headlight surrounds, make sure you remove tape while the last coat is still wet. I put on only three coats and didn’t wait that long in between coats as I didn’t want it to fully dry so the tape could be removed without messing it up.
