Default Carbon Fiber Wheels for Turbo

Has anyone bought and used them and, if so, how do they affect driving?

By the lack of comments, has no one bought these wheels?

Fair point. Sorry. I should remember that I'm the odd (stupid?) one on holidays at his desk since 5.30 am.

With respect, the question was not re perceived worth (that is a very subject opinion albeit, in certain forms of racing, to save one pound can cost as much as or more than $50,000 of R&D, design, testing and manufacturing which makes the price of the Porsche Factory carbon fiber wheels a bargain). The question, however, was how do these wheels affect driving if one actually has bought a set. Thanks.

Here’s some past discussion on the subject.

RLinton, there might be a lead in this thread for you:
https://rennlist.com/forums/991-turb...explained.html

MWorld, the answer to why it matters:
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/te...n-fiber-wheels

There’s another thread on the Porsche wheels, but the only useful info is that they went live on the configurator about a month ago.

Chances are slim that someone on Rennlist or even - gasp - 6speed has gotten a set since they’ve been available to order for only a month.

My opinion on the subject is in the first thread.

I have Forgeline CF201's carbon fiber and aluminum wheels being made for the tts and my ZR1, seen several full carbon fiber wheels just never like the design of any of them, and I have been really happy with all my Forgeline wheels thru the years on my other cars, and have them on my new Z06 in just aluminum. They save 3-6 lbs a wheel vs all aluminum.

Forgeline makes a nice aluminum wheel (have them for my ACR Extreme - pictures attached). The Forgeline carbon fiber wheels, however, as you point out, is a combination of carbon fiber (the barrel) and aluminum (the spokes) as opposed to the Porsche wheel which is all carbon and, as such, might provide a somewhat different feel on the road.

I believe the carbon fiber wheels just came out for the standard turbo with the new configurator, if anyone did order them the car probably has not been built yet. Maybe someone has them on the Turbo S Exclusive model? My guess is that car would not get driven much anyway.

A local guy here has carbon wheels on his 911 (C4S). I asked him about them. He really liked them. The aesthetics were a big factor in his purchase, and he gets a lot of compliments on them due to the unique look.

If you’re just looking for minimum weight wheels / ultimate performance, I’d suggest you look into magnesium options as well.

There would appear to be pros and cons of carbon fiber vs. magnesium wheels. Personally, I think that the best eventual combination would be carbon barrels with magnesium spokes.
