Felt bad that i wasted Champions time, they were super nice working through the process of picking and specking out a car (and super patient as I went back and forth on a few features) then I took my business somewhere else
In my mind I wrote off the $1,000 deposit because it was my fault, my decision to spin their wheels and then buy from another dealer - so in my mind I thought it was fair for them to keep the deposit - HOWEVER, to their credit I did get back my deposit about 6 weeks later
Clearly a few different opinions in this forum about returning or not returning the money but Champion did their part and by keeping the $1,000 its a way to keep people from coming in reserving a car and then cross-shopping them, maybe shop around first and then when ready go to the dealer and place the order
For what its worth I found the folks at Champion really great to work with
the problem is that to get the best price, sometimes you need to put the money down to know what it is. so if they're going to play that game, then you need to be sure you bring your A game also and make sure you don't get backed into a corner. In an ideal situation, those games wouldn't be played by either side.

Anybody heard from ol' Georgemaser (OP) lately? Looks like he stepped on an ant bed and walked away.

Without anything else from the OP, I'd say this was just a hit job, and the matter is closed. Until I hear otherwise, I will consider giving my business to Champion in the future.

Yeah, very quiet OP. Why?
Could this thread have caused CP to refund the deposit?

Was the deposit return being processed regardless of this Internet thread?

I gave my Ferrari dealer $8000 as a deposit on a new Cali T but then I backed out of the deal. The F dealer won't refund my deposit. (Just thought you should know).

Why does it take Champion Porsche six weeks to return a deposit? I don’t see why it should take anymore than 24 hrs to get a customer their money back once the business has decided to make a refund. I’ve had a few places jerk me around for a couple weeks on credit card refunds and I can say, they won’t ever get my business again.

Maybe because the terms of agreement did not include a refund of the deposit if the deal did not go through, and the process of the dealer deciding whether or not o look the other way and ignore the terms, and refund the money, took that long.

(PS - I absolutely HATE taking the side of a Porsche dealer, by the way)
Culture difference here- the deposit is always refundable in CA, so it is more like an emotional commitment than a contractural obligation. Even if I fully special order a car with my name in the doors, I could walk away and the dealer would hold enough return the car to "stock", but other than that...
