Default 991 Turbo S value.

Everyone, I have been looking at the 997 turbo s for a while. Prices have come down a little over the last year. 991 turbo s prices have down even more and becoming more interesting. I have not driven either one yet, but considering appearance the 991 esthetically looks better to me, and is faster as well. 997.2 does not have the Mezger motor, which would be a consideration, however, I already own a Mezger turbo. I am beginning to think to hold off a little longer and pick up a 991 tts. Collectively the 991 isn't going to surpass the 997 pricing, sure there will be some lower mileage 997's which will cost more than higher mileage 991's etc.

My question is at what price point do you anticipate the value will remain stable?

The current generation Turbos are not going to stop depreciating for quite some time. While they are fantastic cars, they've followed a pattern of falling pretty fast the first 2 years and then leveling off for some time, until they're out of warranty and then taking another drop, with CPO and non-CPO cars showing the ends of the range. The 997.2 held strongly at $120k +/- with 15k miles +/- for quite awhile until the used 2014s started hitting the market. They did a quick swap, 997.2 Turbo S are around $100k with 20k miles (as always+/-), and the 2014s which are coming out of warranty now, are $120k or so. (with appropriately low miles). The used 997.2 Turbo S was propped up partly because of price increase from 997.2 -> 991 (about $20k).

There is nothing special or collectible thus far about the 997s. The 997.2 Turbo S shares a basic motor with the 991. (the 991 has a raft of improvements, and again for the .2) There will be some that will be nostalgic for the 997 Mezger motors, but anyone current, who wants to drive the cars, rather than just looking at them will just see coolant lines coming out and early VTN turbos failing, with the VANOS actuators dying. There is some low mileage 997.2 Turbos with a manual transmission that people are asking silly money for but they are sitting on the market right now, so the disparity with buyers and sellers on those make the true market value difficult.

No car that you plan to put miles on will have a truly stable value except over a long (20+ years) of time. I think there is a narrow window in which the 991.1 turbo will stay at it's current value and that is while the body style is current. When the 992 Turbos hit the used market in about 2021-2022 (so in 3-4 years) I would expect the 991s to be commonly available at $100-110k. An in warranty 2015 at $125k-$130k will be a $115-$120k car when the warranty is expired, and will slowly aim towards $100k as the miles and age comes on and the 992 Turbos hit the used market. CPO cars will be more expensive up front but will hold value better.

I've been shopping the 15 Turbo S and prices Im seeing as low as 140k for 5k miles pretty well spec. I almost bought on here in Ky. but felt prices were going to drop more for same car so that scared me off.
I'm really wanting a daily driver that I don't lose too much on

2014 991 Turbo S coupes are trading hands at auction from 122k to 131k Miles are the big factor. Miles in the low to mid 20k range gets you closer to 122 garage queens with 3-5k miles are hovering closer to 130ish.
Retail price or CPO is a whole different story.
15's are ranging 127 to 143.

'14 Non S turbo coupes are in the 115k average range. Higher mileage cars (40k miles) are just a hair under 100, but low mile cars are still floating into the 120's. Miles seem to be able to dictate anywhere from 10-20k.
'15 Turbo do not have a large enough data sample....

My 2014 Turbo S CPO is probably worth around $130k. I'm wondering how long to hang onto it. CPO warranty runs till August 2020 so plenty of warranty left right now. When is the cliff in value?

I'm in the same boat..wondering what prices will be in about 6 months when my '18 will be here. These TTSs are like BMW 7 series....

there seems to be a surplus of overpriced TTSs on the market now, mostly silver and black, they don't appear to be selling quickly and the list is growing

when a clean low mileage one appears at a significantly lower price, it's gone quickly

That is what I am hoping for. Currently shopping 2014's now but the dealers seem to really love their inventory at this point.

Agreed. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I think it's like cake. We all love cake but it get's played out if you have too much of it. Porsche has so many variations of the same thing thinking that they will get more buyers but they won't because each 911 competes with itself more than taking market share from the other car makers. AMG or a GTS or a 570 gt or a 991.2 TTS to a 720s to a 911r etc. It's like one car against the world of DIFFERENT cars. Porsche should come up with more models instead of playing ping pong with options and motors/HP. That's why there prices will drop too much killing the new ones coming out every couple of years.

Thanks everyone, all good points.

Kitwetzler, I think you made some good points, I think they'll level off even lower than what you anticipate when the 992's are hitting the market. Just in the last 6 months I've seen the higher mileage S drop below 130 to even some in the 110's with 30-40K miles. Time will tell.

Well, 2018 are harder to get than any previous model year (not GT3-like but long wait and little or no discount), and there may be a gap for a year or so soon as Porsche changes over to 992. I know many with 991 Turbos are not selling or trading in because there is nothing to upgrade to. That can put depreciation on pause for a little until 992 floodgates open and everyone starts upgrading to the new gen.

Any current opinions on the 14-15's TTS?

Was looking today at a 15 TTS CPO 20K miles for $139,900.

Seem they're holding up pretty well (as far as asking).

CPO car like ^^ this, wonder what values will do in 2-4 years and after CPO is up.
