Default Getting new car home without rock chips

I handed my friend Crazy Eddie some painters tape and asked him to protect the car for the 30-mile drive home while I did the paper work with the sales guy. I'll give him credit -- the man takes this sort of thing very seriously. I'm having the car done in 3M paint protection film and wanted to ensure a pristine surface to cover. Probably would have been fine as there wasn't much traffic, but no need for luck with Crazy Eddie on the job!

Great color combination. Should be a new special order paint for Porsche. Why didn't you just have it done at the dealership before you moved the car?

I have done this before too. However I did it in a way which still leaves the car road legal (you can't cover the headlights).

I used Trakk Tape. It's clear so you can protect the car and headlights without looking like your car is illegal.

You and Crazy Eddie should have a beer or something. You're kindred spirits! Looks great by the way. If you plan to PPF your car, there's nothing worse than a rock chip on the way home. That happened to me with another car and I was determined not to let it happen again.

Or use some temporary RV or Road film, peel right off when you get home......but have used plenty of rolls of tape for track days in the past !

I bought a roll of Transportwraps but ended up not using it since I got too lazy. Luckily, the 20 miles drive from the dealership to my PPF guy was uneventful.

Great taping job. He is a good friend.

Just a thought. Take a look at Suntek. I have had 3M Xpel Ultimate on 2 previous cars and chose Suntek Ultra for the Turbo S. I felt it had better clarity, less orange peel, etc... No I don't work for them or own any stock. Good Luck with the new car.

Wow, taping the car for a 30 mile drive home?

Man, I'd hate to be you when you get your first door ding or curb rash

I'm all for taking car of our cars, but this sounds a bit like....

You will never get to enjoy the full potential of the 911 TTS if you are obsessive about paint chips and dings.
These cars are meant to be tracked, drive it like you stoled it, at least once in awhile!
