Which exhaust (specific preferences)
I'm trying to get the right exhaust for my (now 2018) Turbo S. I know there has been many discussions and I've read many of them, but I have not gotten a clear answer to what combination will get me the result closest to what I want. I like OEM sound but I do not like how it does not get louder with revs. It kills the sense of acceleration and feels unnatural in general.
Here is what I want:
- Quiet as OEM or very slightly louder below ~3K RPM and partial throttle
- Angry Porsche sound above 3K RPM at partial or full throttle, something like 65% GT3 and 35% AMG E63S
- Pops on overrun but not shotgun-like or backfires as some exhaust do, but rather softer burble-pops, like stock but slighly louder.
- (Optional) Ability to generate a little glow/fire or fireballs out of the exhaust. I know it's silly, but so is 600HP in a daily driver.
I thought about maybe keeping stock exhaust and just getting 200 or 100 cell cats?
Any ideas?

Fireballs come when you run without catalytic converters. You'll get more if you tune the car to run rich as that exhausts more fuel vapor which can detonate. Test pipes are a common term for a catalytic converter bypass pipe. Typically they with a tune produce the best power for road racing, half mile events, and so forth, and removing the catalytic converter also typically reduces heat around that area as the exhaust flow restriction is gone.
For downsides, it is typically illegal to remove catalytic converters for a street driven car, some will be frustrated at you over the environmental disregard, and the exhaust often leaves behind soot deposits on your bumper cover near the tailpipes.
If you run a 100/200 cell cat I don't believe you'll see fireballs but today's 100 cell cats introduce very little restriction and yield very nearly the same horsepower.
My race car will eventually lose the catalytic converters, but I expect my daily driven (ICE-powered) street cars will always have them.

Did you change plans and buy a 2018 TTS instead of the car you were originally pursuing?
I’ve got the FVD Brombacher “muffler only” exhaust on my TTS. It’s a cabriolet, so I didn’t want anything too loud. Overall, I’m quite pleased with it. It’s not too loud, but the OE 600 cell cats muffle the wail at high RPM. In sport mode, it sounds great. It’s hardly louder than stock in normal mode. The only time that I get “shotgun-like” backfires is when I’m in sport mode and I use the paddles to downshift aggressively.

The .2 TTS must have a different exhaust sound at higher rpm's then my '15 because I love the sound of my stock exhaust at higher rpm's. It gets very throaty when you punch it, but I do have a Cab however. I'm so glad I kept it stock, plenty loud for me.

The original one had a rather major defect that I discovered during Euro delivery, and Porsche stepped up offering a new car rather than a repair. I'd prefer for it not to have happened but grateful of how they are handling it.

Personally i run with no cats no muffler(xpipe), its way too loud.
If you want a quieter setup, keep the stock headers, and decide if you want sport cat or no. IMO, factory muffler is not that good. So get that x pipe.
If you can spend a lot $$$$, go for akrapovic.
Fabspeed and cargraphic are great too.

Would love to hear your set-up Peter, do you have a video ?
I'm also very happy with your ex Sharkwerks muffler, basically 2 empty pipes replacing the OE muffler and keeping the stock Cats in place.
Does what you are looking for, except no fireballs.

Europipe is hard to beat. Great Porsche sound that is not loud during normal driving and really beautiful during heavy throttle. I had a Kline Iconel on my previous NA 4S and it is also a beautiful piece of workmanship. More aggressive than the Europipe.
Since just picking up my TTS I'll be looking for a Europipe since owning 2 previously.

I highly recommend the Kline inconel catless from Sam...I run this and was very concerned about drone or loudness...it is as quiet as the stock or quieter under cruise mode but really sings when you get on it...and I'd bet Sam would give you a money back guarantee should you try it and not like it...how can you beat that !...and finally it's a first great step towards stage IV should you ever wish to get there !!

I ran the eurosport on my 2014, then upgraded to the Kline Catless. Out of the 2, loved the Kline.
On my 2016, I decided to try the GMG. I still prefer the Kline out of all 3 setups.
