When the 992 comes out, what about the 992.2 release? Or the 992 GTS? It NEVER ends.

I've owned 2 991's now (C2s & GTS) so not even thinking about a 991.2. Not a word about the 992 yet, at least from my two dealers (they would be coy about it anyway). I would not order a first year 992 and would most likely wait for the GTS. Hopefully they borrow the turbo tech from the present Turbo/Turbo S and get rid of the present turbo lag even a bit more.
I see the 992 base and S models hitting right as stated, late 2018 as 2019 models with GTS models a year or two later (hopefully they don't wait too long). For me I'd much rather wait for the new model that will bow fairly soon compared to a fully loaded custom 991.2 that will pretty much be history after that. YMMV

It may not be easy to get a PTS turbo cabriolet allocation, especially as the 992 launch approaches.

I try to skip a model change, but so far I failed miserably.
If they had allocations out for the 992 would make it more bearable. I don’t think they’ll repeat the last release when the 991 came as 12 model early in the year, with some 997.2 also as ‘12 models

If the 992 Turbo S has the Panamera 8 spd PDK and the Panamera Instrument and High Res TouchScreen display along with some of the newer Safety features than I might change.
But the elimination of the analog gauges even though the information is already digitally supplied would be a step change for the 911.-Richard

Porsche hasn't made anything official so we're left to speculate based on past release cycles and any strong economic or production based drivers that might slow or accelerate it.
Don't forget the new model is usually released in Carrera and Carrera S form only initially. Others are then phased in. So if you want a 992 turbo or turbo S it may be a year or two after the 992 Carrera S hits the streets.
My guess is the 992 Carrera and Carrera S arrive in 2019 as a 2020 model and the turbo and turbo S won't come until 1-2 years later. The reasoning is the 991.2 was introduced as a 2017 model year (US market) and the 997.2 ran three years. So 17-19 as 991.2 and then the 992 comes in 2019 labeled as a 2020 model for the US market. And the turbo wasn't out until a little later.
A few potential influencers on the release might be:
1) If the 992 shares platforms with the next R8 that will tie development schedules together. A lot of car sites reported this idea early this year.
2) Some wonder if the cash needs driven by Dieselgate might change or accelerate the release cycle, but that's a hard call as it costs money to make the changeover.
3) If they develop hybrid powertrains that may take time. Most rumours indicate this is unlikely for the 992.1.
4) Often sales figures are cited as reason to release the new model. 911 sales are in a slump so they'll release early, that type of thing.

Keep something in mind.
You could die tomorrow. And never ever see the 992 unveil.

I am going with the slightly larger 992. It looks like the hood is also slightly longer with a wider rear. I suspect it will be out in 2019 as a 2020 model. I assume it will have slightly more HP.
Mu current 991 has only 19,000 miles, and I was offered 50% of the previous MSRP as a trade. That $55K can go to my older Luftgekuhlt 911s (one needs a rebuild as the valve guides are starting to leak oil).
Everyone has his own reasons. A good price on a 991.2 GTS could change my mind, but that is probably not going to happen.

I had a wonderful experience last weekend at a PCA event. There were about 50 cars there. My wife asked me which of the cars I would like to have instead of mine, not including the Mexico Blue 918 Spyder. My answer was "none of them"! I already own the car that I want to have. My car does everything that I want it to do, and it has all the features that I desire. I'm sure that will change in the years to come, but I'm going to enjoy it for now and not worry about "upgrades".
