Default Cayman GTS. Can it take some GT3 sales?

I think so... It is certainly impressive and Sutcliffe is raving about it!

A v. nice car and great review, but it gives up 140HP and doesn't play in the same league as the GT3. Sutcliff raved about the 991 GT3 as the best sports car he'd ever driven so I think he gets a bit hyperbolic in the moment. The key to his comments, IMHO, is that the Cayman GTS is "the best sports car sensible money can buy".

Personally, I don't think too many buyers who are seriously considering a GT3 would buy one of these instead. Well, I'll just speak for myself.....

IMHO, it will not steal any sales from the GT3. The 911 has always been & will always be the iconic car in Porsche's range. Porsche has deliberately marketed the Cayman to be lowered than the 911 no matter how good the car is. The Cayman based GT4 will be a step closer to the GT3. Cheers mate!

I would buy it over a base carrera but it is too underpowered to be considered instead of a gt3.

A buddy of mine ordered one. With the options added ( and he was trying to be very conservative) he hit the 90k. He keeps on going back and forth. For the money he can get a good 2013 991s

The GTS is really just an option package of the S with the adding of 15 hp and a change of bumpers. Do the added 15 hp really make a big difference in everyday driving and/or track driving?

If I didn't have kids, I would buy this as my daily driver and track the GT3. They are in different leagues but to be fair the Cayman GTS looks and sounds awesome. Because of the kids, I'm getting a Panamera GTS instead!

If they make a Cayman GT4, then maybe, depending on specs.

The Cayman GTS - no.

GTS is just another variant with a slight horsepower gain and a couple goodies to try to stir some sales. Porsche - just finally take the next step and give this car with 400-420 plus horses and let it beat the C2S. Just milking this is not going to excite the purists. This car will not steal 911 sales nor GT3 sales. Crank out a GT4 with some serious numbers and a manual and you can gain back the purists you loss who did not opt for the GT3 because lack of manual

Before watching the review, I would have said no. After watching the review, I'll say maybe. Mid-engine, 6-sp manual, and US ~$50K less than a 991 GT3 are good selling points.

Underpowered yes-known fact.
It revs to 8K RPM,according to Sutcliffe, " it could be the best sport car sensible money can buy! "
" Lovely 6 speed manual gearbox " coming from a big PDK fan. " I'm having a little bit of a rewind about PDK ". I love that statement!
Curb weight of 2965LBS and the GT3 weighs 3153LBS.
" Apart from the LaFerrari and P1,the nicest steering of any sports car on sale at the moment ". I don't remember him saying that about the GT3 steering. Since it probably shares the same electromechanical steering system with the GT3,I assume it is due to the improved software...? Or mid-engine set-up...?
" If I could have one sports car for the rest of my life this might be it ".
And then it's the price : it starts at 75K.

+1

Just take a look at the Elephant GT3 suspension walk through. I'd wager other than a ride height adjustment the Cayman GTS looks just like a Cayman S underneath ... nothing like a GT3.

Other than the chassis and interior the GT3 is almost a completely different car than a C2S, C4S, or even a 50th.

What heights adjustment? PASM/SS is std on GTS and optional on S. No change that can't be had.

I was just referring base GTS to base S. You illustrate my point that the GTS is just an S with a few cosmetic tweaks. Nothing like the difference between a C2S and a GT3.
