Default Boxster Spyder or 991.1 GT3 - If you could only have 1

I just recently downsized my fun cars from three,( Cayman R ( GTB1), Ferrari 308, Cayman GTS) and bought a 2016 GT3. The thought was it will be an awesome car on the track and fun for weekend drives.

Well...The car is awesome..Its crazy good on the track for a straight off the showroom floor street car. But on the road, Meh. Too much power to really experience the car on the road. PDK, which I love on the track, makes the driving on the street much less of an occasion. So I'm looking for a unicorn. Something that has the involvement and occasion of my 308, the comforts and reliability of my GTS and enough ***** and capability to be fun on the 4-5 track days I make it to a year.

As far As I can tell the closest fit may be the Spyder. Great power, stick, open air, and decent track capability - I know lots of guys here have or do own both. I'd be quite interested in your thoughts.

If I could only have one it would be the GT3 hands down, and I think the Spyder is a great complement car to the GT3. Two different cars for different missions while neither is a good DD IMO. I see them both as specialty cars for fun, and some do make them DD just not for me.

Personally, I would feel safe tracking a convertible so that's out for me for personal safety. GT3 is just a different car across all categories, and always has a specia please in Porsche history. The Spyder will also time will tell.

Honestly. U need a 911r. Haha.

PDK gt3 isn't fun on street and spyder really isn't a practical dd.

Good choice for you could be 997.2 gt3 or RS. Maybe gt4?

I totally understand about too much for the street. That thought has also been in my head the past year or so.

Just for clarity this car will not be a daily driver. Its just my fun car, but now that I've committed to having just 1 fun car and no trailers etc - I'm looking for a car that can be a little of all three of the cars I just sold.

Stick with the GT3. I daily drive mine and it's still fun after 2 years and 8000 miles.

You might have buyer's remorse with the Boxter.

sounds like the 981/718 platform might suit you best?

I'm also at the same crossroad. I like the GT3. But I'll never even utilise the limits of a Cayman S.....

Another vote for GT4.
There are a handful of us who traded 991 GT3's for GT4's. Certainly not as fast, but for me was more fun.

There's no doubt the sypder is more fun than the gt3 for anything but the track.

I'm telling you, do the mods and it will never make you want anything else. Intake, throttle body, ecu flash, headers and exhaust...not very much stuff and radically changes the car into a monster.

There's probably a disproportionate amount of young boys dreaming of owning a GT3 someday over the Boxster. I forgot what Jeremy Clarkson calls the Boxster.

Just kidding, get the Boxster for a daily. I hardly drive my GT3 in traffic.

I can't see myself getting rid of a GT3 (or my RS) for the Spyder. I did replace my 991 C2S with the Spyder. If I only tracked a couple times a year, then I could totally see replacing the Gt3 with a spyder.

That's why we call it the spyder and not the boxster!

Sounds like a GT4 would do the trick. I see it as a "Jack of all trades". Great on the street- Very good on the track. There are better track cars such as your GT3 but for the street that manual strapped to that platform is great fun especially if you add some mods.
