thinking of buying one, do you need motion or not? how much to spend? how hard to set up?

How much do these cost? I'd rather buy a cheap beater track car and experience the real thing. Kind of like Penthouse magazine vs. the real thing. Which one would you choose?

If the real thing is a beater, I'll take the magazine.
A good friend has a simulator and is quite happy with it. If young factor time and cost, a no brainer for sure.

I have one...
I put it in front of my 110' projection TV though, not doing the 3 monitor thing.
I just use a wireless HDMI through my network to connect to it from my computer so I didn't have to build a dedicated one.
If you plan on tracking you car it is a good way to practice, especially if the game has the track you are going to.

I have a dedicated PC with 60 inch screen and oculus VR goggles. It's mid market on cost. Probably 10k invested with seats. When I first got it I ran it off my laptop on a tv with a Logitech wheel. Yes there is a difference with pro gear but not enough to take away from the experience. I use it constantly to practice what we worked on track during a coaching or DE session. It helps immensely to sharpen vehicle dynamics and responses. The physics are amazing but a lack of seat of pants or tire feedback is where it differs to real life. Still worth it. I've used forza, project cars and landed finally on iracing. Super happy. If you don't want to race and just practice no problem. Most of the coaches doing podcasts all recommend sim time to sharpen skills. Just keep in mind the same bad habits in a car on track will be replicated in the sim so take it seriously. I try to do 30 min sessions at a time. Take a break. Good luck. If interested I can post my whole setup - seat, wheel, pedals, shifter, pc etc.

I think you could spend $1500 and accomplish a very acceptable setup at a desk. Logitech wheel and pedals, screen and PC. I think the iracer who was called up from iracing to MX5 cup did it with a basic... really basic used setup. But yeah it can get nuts fast.

I just bought a PC, race seat, Logitech pedals and Occulus Rift. I 'share' with my kids...
The VR is incredible, although a bit disorienting at first. I was going to get the 3 screen set-up but can't see why I'd need that now, unless I'm missing something?
Was mainly going to use it for track orientation for some real races later this year, but seem to have spent a lot of time rallying!

During service at my recently opened dealership, they sat me down to kill some time ...same seat as my rs, a whole list of tracks and cars.... fantastic! I had a ball with the cip car at spa....kissed most of the walls and played a in most of the pebbles! Don't the product name but it really impressed....will try it again.

Here are the links, bought it all on Amazon and paid around $1100 for the steering wheel and seat setup.
Also the seat offers other things you can add later like a motion device that goes on the bottom to move you around as you are driving, but it cost around 3k just for that part so I did not get it but can always get it later if I feel it is a must, but for now I don't see the need for it.
